Master Detective Archives: RAIN CODE Highlights Sidequests, Character Growth, Action Scenarios & More; New Screenshots
Spike Chunsoft has revealed new gameplay details about their upcoming mystery adventure Master Detective Archives: RAIN CODE, detailing side activities, character growth, and the action scenarios players can anticipate.
As players explore the Kanai Ward, they’ll sometimes stumble upon Shinigami-like statues that are Memory Shards granting access to events featuring the protagonist, Yuma, and several other characters. The Gumshoe Gab option in the main menu will contain hints for where to find these Shards. Another collective side activity is Requests, where Yuma will aid townspeople with various tasks such as finding a missing child or a book.
You’ll gain Detective Points throughout the game, raising Yuma’s Detective Rank. Then, his rank will provide Skill Points, redeemable for Labyrinth Skills, divided into the following categories:
- Evasion – Skills that ease the difficulty of action-oriented gameplay elements, such as slowing down the Mystery Phantom’s statements in a Reasoning Death Match.
- Solution Blade – Skills that ease the difficulty of puzzle elements, like eliminating incorrect answer choices for example.
- Stamina – Increases Yuma’s maximum health, making it less likely the game will end if you make a mistake.
Memory Skill slots will also increase as Yuma gains a higher Detective Rank, allowing for more Labyrinth Skills to be equipped simultaneously.
At the end of Mystery Labyrinths, GOD Shinigami mode will activate, an action sequence where Shinigami will grow drastically in size and chase down the evasive Mystery Phantom resembling the true culprit of the crime you’re solving. Jumping and tackling obstacles will need to be mastered here.
Also in Mystery Labyrinths are Locked Room Re-Creations, which, as the tin says, let you perceive the intricacies of a crime scene to gather clues and uncover a more solidified truth.
Lastly, the previously detailed Reasoning Death Matches grow in complexity and challenge throughout the game and give you new maneuvers to utilize. Repel, for instance, reflects Phantoms’ blue statements, causing them to spew out more lines that will lead to the case’s core, even if you lack evidence. Moreover, other detectives can Assist Yuma during Reasoning Death Matches by making him invincible briefly, though this must be used sparingly.

Master Detective Archives: RAIN CODE has players control an amnesiac detective who is followed by a Shinigami and solve cases by examining crime scenes and evidence. The Shinigami will create a realm connecting the crime scene to the truth. Mystery Phantoms will try to impede your progress, and defeating them by utilizing the truth is the only way to go.
The gameplay comprises exploration throughout the Kanai Ward, which is entirely 3D. Players will have to examine several crime scenes and other locations alongside interviewing involved parties. Hidden clues are emphasized as being hidden via specific camera angles.
