Gamesindustry.biz recently shared an updated report on Krafton’s acquisition of Tango Gameworks following the studio’s initial closure with Microsoft.
This extensive interview with Krafton revealed key insights, such as how 70 to 80 Tango employees will join Krafton’s acquisition. Previously, Tango had around 90, but a few had already found new employment avenues. However, some positions in immediate need will be backfilled, meaning that the studio’s total will be close to 90 or 100 at the end of 2024 or the start of 2025.
Krafton also stated that this is just the beginning of their expansion into the Japanese video game market, but they will be cautious. The company doesn’t necessarily desire a AAA background; they primarily desire “talented, passionate teams with a strong creative vision and the potential to create unique gameplay experiences.” There are some talks in place with unspecified teams in the country.
As for Hi-Fi Rush, the Krafton representative said they believe the team wants to work on Hi-Fi Rush DLC and even port the game to other platforms, including Switch. Interestingly, Tango was already working on Hi-Fi Rush 2 when Krafton first met them.
They seemed to be taking feedback from the first Hi-Fi Rush regarding an abundance of factory areas, with a “more open world type of experience” providing a more dynamic environment. It’s believed that this game will not be completely open world. Moreover, the build Krafton saw of Hi-Fi Rush 2 was around six months old.
Lastly, Krafton clarified that the only IP they acquired was Hi-Fi Rush, with The Evil Within and Ghostwire staying with Microsoft. Krafton isn’t expecting Tango to be a “huge commercial hit,” with the mission instead being to “scale up the creative.”
Tango will not be hand-held in the future since it performs at it is at its best when given creative autonomy. For additional comments, you can view the full interview.
Hi-Fi Rush follows protagonist Chai, who gets his heart fused with an old music player, influencing how the gameplay plays out. Combat and movement follow a musical rhythm, and following it to the beat will trigger Beat Hits, combos, team-up attacks, and several more techniques.
Plus, various upgrades and collectibles can be obtained as you strive for S-ranks. Content creators can utilize a streamer friendly soundtrack, too. Other playable modes include the Rhythm Tower and BPM Rush, which all offer extensive rewards.
