Thank you all so much for all the positive comments you’ve shared for last week’s Capcom Spotlight. We’re glad to see so many of you say you can’t wait to know when the game will be released! The whole team is now working on the final stages of development. Please look forward to our next announcement!
This time, we’d like to introduce our Underground Laboratory. This is a research facility built by the Formidable Foe Dokyo, beneath the heart of Kyoto, designed to create new Genmas. We’ve designed this stage with the feel of a traditional Japanese haunted house in mind. The shadows cast on the shoji screens look rather eerie, don’t they?
You’ll have to play the game to find out exactly what kind of stage it is.
Set in the Edo period, Onimusha: Way of the Sword introduces a new protagonist, Miyamoto Musashi, a samurai who finds himself wielding the Oni Gauntlet. His goal involves slaying demons known as Gemma, fiends from the lowest depths of Hell, actualized as Malice.
The Oni Gauntlet remains a core mechanic, allowing players to absorb enemy souls mid-battle to restore health and unleash devastating special moves. Gameplay footage showcases the combat system, highlighting one-on-one duels, counterattacks, and environmental interactions that add additional layers to encounters.
The team aims to make Way of the Sword’s main story around 20 hours long, but that is purely an estimation and not finalized.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword will be released in 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
