Love Live! School Idol Festival 2 Announces Global Launch…And End of Service

In one of the strangest moves ever made in the industry, publisher Bushiroad has announced that the long-awaited Global version of Love Live! School Idol Festival 2: Miracle Live! will be finally arriving next month in February…and then close at the end of May, with the Japanese server closing in March.

School Idol Festival 2 is essentially an updated replacement game for the original School Idol Festival, which launched in 2013 in Japan and 2014 worldwide, but was discontinued last year. A Global launch was initially set for last year, but was delayed for previously unknown reasons, and in the meantime sister title Love Live! All-Stars was also terminated.

Now, it seems that the game is only launching to fulfill the publisher’s promise to fans, as it will end service less than four months after debuting, and the Japanese end-of-service will be coming only shortly after the Global launch. This appears to be the most ethical approach to such a limited window of availability, essentially warning players that they should not invest heavily into a title the publisher is already planning to discontinue, but this will unfortunately leave fans of the franchise without any active titles to play, or even to look forward to, as no future games have been announced.
