Arc System Works America has announced the survivors-like action game River City Survivors: Downtown of the Dead launching exclusively through Apple Arcade on October 1, 2026.
River City characters find themselves facing zombies filling the screen. Players defeat enemies to earn experience and level up, gaining access to Special Moves. These attacks can evolve during a run, changing their appearance and offensive capabilities.
Character growth varies between attempts. Leveling up presents randomized upgrades covering skill attacks, projectile attacks, and stat increases.
Equipment provides permanent stat improvements outside individual runs. Characters have six equipment slots covering Gakuran school jackets, Bontan baggy pants, belts, shoes, accessories, and inner buttons. Equipment can also carry additional effects, giving players another reason to search for stronger gear between attempts.
More than 20 playable characters can be unlocked through progression, including River City regulars Kunio and Riki. Each character features different stats and skill sets. Players can also bring up to two NPC allies into battle. Companions can be equipped and strengthened, too.
