Final Fantasy VII Revelation Won’t Have Streamlined Progression at Launch

Final Fantasy VII Revelation will not include the Streamlined Progression feature at launch, according to game director Naoki Hamaguchi in an interview with RPGSite. The feature is planned for a post-launch update.

Streamlined Progression was previously added to Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. It provides optional settings that can make progression easier by adjusting character stats, abilities, money, and other gameplay elements.

Hamaguchi said the development team considered adding the feature to Revelation from day one after seeing players use it in the previous games. The team ultimately decided against it because the period immediately after release typically sees players discussing builds and strategies for progressing through the game. Streamlined Progression will arrive later, though no timeframe was provided.

In an interview with Deadline, Hamaguchi also said Cloud’s condition will remain an important part of the story. Hamaguchi declined to detail how his recovery unfolds, but confirmed that considerable attention has gone into that portion of his character arc.

Hamaguchi also addressed the possibility of Final Fantasy VII receiving an animated or live-action adaptation. Square Enix does consider adaptation opportunities for Final Fantasy VII and its other properties, but no such project was announced.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation will be released for  PlayStation 5, Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Windows, the Epic Games Store, and Steam on April 8, 2027.
