Ys X Was Planned to Release This Year for Series 35th Anniversary
The President of Nihon Falcom, Toshihiro Kondo, was recently interviewed by the Chinese outlet 4gamers, mainly discussing the recently released The Legend of Heroes: Kuro no Kiseki II Crimson Sin. As a result, the questions and responses here are fairly equivalent to the Weibo interview we provided coverage for.
However, there is some news about the still-elusive Ys X. The following question and response were translated by Falcom community member Hansuke:
Q: This year marks the 35th anniversary of the Ys series, right? Does Nihon Falcom have any plans to celebrate?
Kondo: We had plans to release Ys X this year to commemorate the 35th anniversary, but due to various considerations, we were unable to do so. It’s still under development, and not much information can be released at this time, but I will say this: Ys X will see a complete renovation of the traditional battle system, unlike VII, VIII and IX, all of which use the same style, and Adol’s age will have a surprising arrangement for older players.
The latter parts of Kondo’s answer were stated when Ys X was first announced via Famitsu in June 2022. Adol’s age was revealed to be around 17 in this upcoming entry, around the time frame of Ys I & II. Further, this might be a solo adventure for Adol, which has not been the case since Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim.
Still, one has to wonder about the current state of Ys X. I believe it’s safe to assume it’s planned to launch next year, but Kondo also said that he was working on writing its script during Tokyo Game Show 2022. So, with that being the case, it’s really anyone’s guess how far into development Ys X is. Regardless, here’s hoping we learn more in the near future.
