Falcom President Reveals that Ys X Nordics Could Have Had Dogi be Adol’s Partner, But Staff Unanimously Chose a New Heroine
In the latest issue of Famitsu magazine, the president of Nihon Falcom, Toshihiro Kondo, was interviewed about the upcoming Ys X Nordics and tangentially related facets.
In one exchange, Kondo revealed that in the planning phases of Ys X Nordics, the staff considered having Dogi or a new heroine as Adol’s partner, with the latter being chosen unanimously.
You can view a translation of the question and response below via our team’s Ryuji:
Kondo: […] By the way, [during development], we considered having Dogi as Adol’s partner or introducing a brand-new heroine. But the staff unanimously agreed to have a new heroine, so it’s almost like the plans to have Dogi as a partner were but an illusion. (laughs)
Interviewer: Poor Dogi…
Ys X Nordics will occur between Ys II and Memories of Celceta, making it the new third canonical entry in Adol Christin’s adventure logs. The gameplay has undergone a significant shakeup, with there only being two playable characters this time around.
Special maneuvers can be unlocked via story scenes and exploration, allowing for environmental interaction. Further, in solo mode, the character you’re not controlling performs actions judged by their own discretion. Adol will be controlling a ship for combat and island hopping, too.
Unused Ys Seven concepts are being utilized in this outing, too. Ys X Nordics will allow players considerable explorative freedom, enabling naval travel with a recruitable crew and ship combat.
