UPDATE: Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana Official English Novel Announced for Fall 2023; Paperback & Digital Releases

Publisher NIS America has announced that a novelization of the Nihon Falcom-developed action JRPG, Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana, will release in October 2023. Written by Anna Kashina and published by  Dragonwell Publishing with paperback and digital launches planned, the following synopsis was provided:

The official novelization of YsVIII: Lacrimosa of Dana, a video game by Nihon Falcom Co.

When Adol Christin boards the sea liner Lombardia for what he expects to be an easy voyage across the Gaete Sea, he has no idea his journey will end in catastrophe. Shipwrecked on the mysterious Seiren Island along with a handful of other Lombardia survivors, he must face the ancient curse that had haunted Seiren for millennia and find a way to defeat it.

Adol’s search for escape brings his party to the ruins of the ancient civilization of Eternia. Among the ruins, Adol discovers a survivor, Dana, who had managed to preserve herself in a magical cocoon through her gift of Essence. But when she awakens and gradually regains her memories, Adol and his friends learn the horrible truth. Humanity is destined for destruction by the same forces that destroyed Eternia  millennia ago. Even Dana’s gift can do little to avert this fate.

Adol and Dana must join forces and throw all their powers into the fight. But will this be enough to defy the ancient gods, and the natural order of the world?

UPDATE 3/24/2023: The novel’s official Twitter account has announced that its cover will be revealed on April 5, 2023, and pre-orders will also be made available worldwide.

The title is currently available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Nintendo Switch, PC and PS5. The PS5 version includes all cosmetic DLC from every previous version of the game. In addition, enhanced performance and graphical updates are also featured.

Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana kickstarted the series’ popularity in the West during its initial Vita and PS4 release. It contains a memorable narrative, addictive combat, a stellar soundtrack, multiple difficulty levels, a plethora of side content, and much more.

Ys IX: Monstrum Nox will launch for PlayStation 5 on May 9, 2023, in North America and on May 12, 2023, in Europe. The title is currently available on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC. This incoming version will include all DLC with enhanced performance.

Ys: The Oath in Felghana Memoire will launch for Nintendo Switch in Japan in Spring 2023.

Ys X Nordics will launch in Japan for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 in 2023.
