Ys 35th Anniversary Reveals New Adol Roo “Adoroo” Artwork via Bean Plate Merchandise

Developer Nihon Falcom has listed new celebratory merchandise for the Ys franchise’s 35th anniversary, bean plates depicting familiar shapes from the series. In particular, the Ys logo, Pikkards, and altered key art of Ys X Nordics are featured on their surfaces.

A set comprising those aforementioned three plates, a card signed by Nihon Falcom president Toshihiro Kondo, and an acrylic stand of Adol in his Roo form, referred to as Adoroo, costs ¥6,050, with only 1,000 productions planned.

Alternatively, the three bean plates, the Ys logo, Pikkards, and Ys X Nordics key art can be purchased separately for ¥1,870 each.

Shipments for every previously detailed product are expected to occur on October 12, 2023.

For those unaware of what Roo are, they are crucial creatures in the Ys series’ lore that possess their own language. They gave the Ys Origin protagonists helpful tools in exchange for fruit and had a nest seen in Ys: Memories of Celceta where the party could also transform into them. Further, Adol was able to transform into a Roo during Ys II. Ys IX: Monstrum Nox also had a Roo of its own, Xavier.

Ys X Nordics will occur between Ys II and Memories of Celceta, making it the new third canonical entry in Adol Christin’s adventure logs. The gameplay has undergone a significant shakeup, with there only being two playable characters this time around.

Special maneuvers can be unlocked via story scenes and exploration, allowing for environmental interaction. Further, in solo mode, the character you’re not controlling performs actions judged by their own discretion. Adol will be controlling a ship for combat and island hopping, too.

Unused Ys Seven concepts are being utilized in this outing, too. Ys X Nordics will allow players considerable explorative freedom, enabling naval travel with a recruitable crew and ship combat.

Ys X Nordics will launch in Japan for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch on September 28, 2023.

Ys X Nordics will launch in Traditional Chinese and Korean for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch on September 28, 2023.
