Yoshitaka Amano Illustrates Reimagined Tomb Raider Box Art Depicting a Distinct Lara Croft
Legendary Japanese artist Yoshitaka Amano, primarily known in gaming communities for his beloved artistic pieces of classic Final Fantasy, recently illustrated a reimagined Tomb Raider box art. Specifically visualizing his interpretation of the franchise’s 2013 outing, Amano depicted protagonist Lara Croft in a distinct way that had not been done prior.
Alongside a unique logo created by Tomb Raider Franchise Art Director Brenoch Adams, Amano provided a comment briefly summating his endeavors on this gorgeous piece, which you can view below:
“Congratulations on 25 years of Tomb Raider. When working on the world-famous game character Lara Croft, I thought about how to express her features as a Japanese artist. I decided to create a sumi-e (ink wash painting) atmosphere with a dignified Lara. I also added a cherry blossom petal treatment in the background. I hope game development teams and fans will all enjoy it.”

Additionally, you can download various versions of this box art and view more information on it via the official Tomb Raider 25th-anniversary website.
Amano possesses a standout art style that immediately fills me with nostalgia, so seeing Lara Croft, a classic video game icon illustrated in such a way amplifies that sentimentality even more.
