Team17 announced plans to publish the Playtonic Games developed adventure platformer Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair, coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC in 2019.
Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair will feature classic platforming adventure mechanics as players will need to use a combination of abilities to take on a series of challenging and vibrant 2.5D levels. Furthermore, there is also much to explore in the game’s 3D overworld which contains puzzles and various collectibles.
The game is not exactly what fans of the genre are used to seeing after the team released the first entry in the series as a spiritual successor to Banjo-Kazooie. Instead, the team has created more of a streamlined game that modern gamers are more accustomed to as the game will have an overhead camera as well as a sidescrolling view for levels. It’s going to be interesting to see how players will receive this, but the colorful levels and cute character might just be enough to win anyone over.
Additionally, the publisher released the game’s first trailer giving fans a preview of this new title and direction. Players can see the characters in action as well as some of the puzzles that will stand in their way.
More information about Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair will come during E3 2019.
