Yakuza Franchise Sells Over 2.9 Million Units Worldwide During Previous Fiscal Year

Sega Sammy has released their financial results for the fiscal year lasting between April 2021 through March 2022. Throughout this time frame, the Yakuza franchise, including both Judgment entries, has been confirmed to have sold over 2.9 million units worldwide (referenced on page 20.) The recent release of Lost Judgment significantly contributed to these momentous sales figures.

Congratulations to developer RGG Studios and publisher Sega for achieving such an impressive collective milestone, and here’s hoping for further Yakuza-related success in the future, such as the highly teased Yakuza 8 and ports of the currently Japan-exclusive titles like Ishin. Speaking of, RGG Studio shared a brief update on the progress of Yakuza 8 alongside reiterating how they have multiple projects in the pipeline.

Yakuza: Like a Dragon is the seventh entry in the Yakuza series and stars actors Shinichi Tsutsumi, Ken Yasuda, and Kiichi Nakai, who lend their appearances and voices to the game’s prominent cast members along with Kazuhiro Nakaya voicing the game’s main protagonist, Ichiban Kasuga.

Yakuza: Like a Dragon stars a brand new protagonist for the first time since the series began, Ichiban Kasuga, a low-level yakuza member trying to make it in the world. His story will lead him to form a crew of unlikely allies as he attempts to follow his dreams from rags to riches.
