Yakuza 7 Revealed in Debut Trailer Introducing New Protagonist and Turn-Based Combat

It seems the first trailer for Yakuza 7 has been released by Sega and developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios. It looks like fans of the series just got a lot of content to hold them over until more news is announced. The game will release in 2020.

The trailer is currently only in Japanese, but a lot can be seen from the trailer alone including a nice introduction to the new protagonist Ichiban Kasuga who has just been released from jail and notices that a lot has changed, including the people he knew before he ended up in jail.

This will be a departure from the series mainstay protagonist, Kazuma Kiryu who’s story developed over six games in the series and a few spin-offs. Whether the series will stick with Kasuga will remain up in the air, but he seems like a capable protagonist for the series so far. However, one huge thing that has changed is the game now has a turn-based battle system that gives it an RPG look to it.

Recently, Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios released the game Judgment in the west to critical praise for its storytelling and many mini-games. In case you missed it, check our review.
