I never thought I’d be typing these words, let alone thinking them, but it has recently come to our attention that there is an artistic connection between the Science Adventure visual novel Chaos;Head and the upcoming Nintendo-published and Monolithsoft-developed JRPG, Xenoblade Chronicles 3.
CHOCO, a Designer for the Ouroboros transformations in Xenoblade Chronicles 3, which comprise party members fusing, is listed as a Product Designer for Chaos;Head. Their Twitter account’s profile also provides this information. While the specificities of what CHOCO worked on for Chaos;Head are not explicitly stated, it’s highly evident that they worked on designing the Delusion Ideal-Swords (DI-Swords).
I won’t detail what the DI-Swords are narrative-wise, seeing as Chaos;Head Noah has yet to be officially localized. Still, when looking at the Ouroboros forms and the DI-Swords, there is an undeniably similar, innate vibe there. Plus, CHOCO’s work history does consist of several mech-like characters, including from the Xenosaga series. So with those facts in mind, the DI-Swords in Chaos;Head are the closest vein in visual appeal.
Product Design sounds like a broad umbrella of occupation, and in a sense, it is, but it’s also integral. The individuals with this title play a key role in ensuring the project’s art style is consistent with the developer’s intentions. As a massive Science Adventure fan and Chaos;Head fan myself, this revelation is quite thrilling.
Ever since the Ouroboros transformations for Xenoblade Chronicles 3 were initially revealed, I was captivated by their designs. This feeling legitimately astounded me since I’ve never liked mechs, with the exception being the Divine Knights in Trails of Cold Steel. However, now that I know that CHOCO worked on the Ouroboros designs, I’m not surprised I immediately became a fan. As a result, my already ceiling-high hype for Xenoblade Chronicles 3 has now exploded and is soaring toward the sky.
Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is releasing for Nintendo Switch on July 29, 2022.
Chaos;Head Noah / Chaos;Child Double Pack is releasing for Nintendo Switch in the West on October 7, 2022. Further, Chaos;Head Noah is releasing on PC via Steam on the same date. Chaos;Child is already available in the West on Steam, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation Vita.
Chaos;Head Noah / Chaos;Child Double Pack is a physical Switch release of the collection that includes both games, a Steelbook, and lingerie DLC (only for Chaos;Head Noah). However, the official website states that the protagonist’s fictitious waifu, Seira Orgel, will not adorn her lingerie costume DLC for the North American and European releases.
Chaos:Head Noah can be seen as the director’s cut version of the original Chaos;Head which was a PC-only release in Japan. Noah added character routes and released for several consoles. Unfortunately, no edition of Chaos;Head has ever received an official localization.
Chaos;Child is a visual novel taking place 6 years after Chaos;Head Noah, focusing on a new cast. This title did receive an official English localization from publisher PQube on PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, and by publisher Spike Chunsoft on PC via Steam.
