Firstly, the basics of combat are identical to the base game, featuring Attack, Defender, and Healer roles with various character-specific Arts embedded with their own results. A battle mechanic called Ouroboros Power comprises more substantial Art variations that fuse with other Arts to produce a multitude of effects.
Union Combos are another tool, essentially combo attacks performed while the enemy is launched. Of course, the characters who use this maneuver will produce different effects, though Smash, Burst, and Blowdown also tend to occur, and the users receive a buff.
Matthew is an attacker of the Martial Artist class who uses Knuckles as his weapon. His strengths appear to be high hit counts and inflicting Smash on the enemy. Further, his Talent Art reinforces his swift combative approach, restoring half the charge for all of his equipped Arts.
A is an attacker of the Monado Fencer class who wields the familiar Vision Talent Art, which disables attacks the party would usually endure. Additionally, A can devastate foes in range in conjunction with Vision.
Regarding progression, this DLC features a new system alongside the usual leveling. A unique resource called Bond Points is acquired by achieving various gameplay feats, which are then spent to heighten the party’s stats and such.
For instance, registering items in the returning Collectopaedia will grant the player Bond Points. And defeating new enemies is yet another way to gain this new resource. However, these Points are shared amongst each character, so you must plan their usage accordingly.
One of the central non-playable characters of the Future Redeemed DLC is Ghondor, the grandfather of the protagonist Matthew and his sister Na’el. He’s highly trusted in the City and has spent much time and effort raising his grandchildren, even in the art of combat.
As seen in the trailer, N, a member of Moebius attacked the City and struck Ghondor specifically, with his leader, Consul Z, having ordered him to do so. But Z appears to be on the same side as Shulk and Rex, so it’s anyone’s guess as to what his aims are.
Riku plays a pivotal role in this DLC as he works in the Liberators organization alongside Shulk and Rex. His efforts greatly benefit his allies, as he even made Shulk’s prosthetic arm. Moreover, Riku can enhance the party’s weapons using currency and materials.
The new character Nikol is a defender of the Machinist class whose utilities are quite varied. For example, his Talent Art negates the efficacy of the enemy’s defense while amplifying his own. On the other hand, Glimmer is a healer of the Shimmering Musician class whose efforts bolster and heal the party in several ways.
