Xbox has announced a new feature that will allow players to claim digital entitlements for supported physical Xbox games. Testing will begin for Xbox Insiders on August 31, 2026, with thousands of Xbox One and Xbox Series titles expected to participate.
Most disc-based Xbox One and Xbox Series X games will support the feature. Players can claim the corresponding digital entitlement by inserting a supported disc into an Xbox One or Xbox Series X console and launching the game.
Once claimed, the entitlement provides access to digital Xbox features supported by that particular title. This can include Xbox Play Anywhere and Xbox Cloud Gaming, potentially allowing an eligible physical purchase to be accessed beyond the console where the disc is inserted.
The original physical disc will continue functioning normally after the digital entitlement has been claimed. Xbox has not detailed any changes to how the physical copy itself operates.
Not every disc-based game will be eligible when testing begins. Microsoft says it is starting with thousands of titles and intends to expand support over time.
The first public test will be conducted through the Xbox Insider Program beginning August 31. Further details regarding greater availability have not been announced.
