Visual Novel Adventure ‘World End Syndrome’ Coming West for PS4 and Switch

Arc Systems Works announced that the Toybox Inc. developed adventure visual novel World End Syndrome will be coming west for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch in Spring 2019.

World End Syndrome is written and directed by 7’scarlet scenario writer and director Kanazawa Tomio. The story follows a male protagonist who moves to the sea town of Mihate and begins as he starts his first day of school. However, it seems like there’s a mystery to discover when a local legend suggests that every 100 years the dead come back to life.

During gameplay, players will make choices in dialog with the other students. These choices will put the play down a route of the game’s many endings. The visual novel was also released on PlayStation Vita in Japan, but that version of the game will not be released in the west.

Toybox Inc. is known for their previous titles, Tokyo Twilight Ghost Hunters and 7’scarlet, which each have visual novel aspects about them, but Tokyo Twilight definitely features many different adventure mechanics.

Author’s take: This will be the North American division of Arc System Works first visual novel in the west. I’m interested to see what the developer does with the localization and how they translate the game for western audiences. Although I’m sure most companies just freelance that stuff nowadays, so we’ll see.
