Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord Launches Into Early Access; Modern Reimagining of the First-Person RPG
Digital Eclipse announced they will publish and develop Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord to launch on PC via Steam Early Access.
Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord has been built from the ground up using the original Apple II Game’s code, which aims to preserve the classic while also incorporating modern graphics and improved party management, navigation, spellcasting, and combat. The remake may look new to long-time players, but the complete Apple II game is running the experience, and you can even view the original interface while you’re playing.
In Early Access, Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord will continue to be developed with feedback from fans. Further, the game has already been in development for nearly two years by a small team at Digital Eclipse, which is known for The Making of Karateka and Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration.
The core game is playable, along with several quality-of-life improvements already implemented (including one-button combat selection and streamlined party management). So expect more updates as the development continues.
We’ll keep you updated on the development and release of Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord.
