Witch on the Holy Night Script Size 2.5 Times Smaller Than Tsukihime Remake; New Key Art

In the latest issue of Famitsu, main background artist Yuuro and composer Hideyuki Fukasawa were interviewed regarding the upcoming Type-Moon-developed visual novel, Witch on the Holy Night.

Some interesting trivia was stated, most notably that the script size for the Japanese-exclusive Tsukihime remake is roughly 2.5 times larger than this release of Witch on the Holy Night. Perhaps this might be a factor as to why the Tsukihime remake was not brought over West, but who can really say?

Additionally, it was stated that voice recordings for Witch on the Holy Night began in conjunction with Tsukihime’s recordings. More specifically, around the time voice work for the former began, Tsukihime’s recordings were around two-thirds complete. Therefore, one can infer that the development of these two titles was simultaneous for a time.

Lastly, new key art for Witch on the Holy Night was shared. You can view the new illustration below. However, note that it is slightly cropped to avoid Famitsu’s overlaying text:

Witch on the Holy Night will be released in Japan and digitally in the West on December 8, 2022, while the West will receive physical shipments on January 27, 2023.

Witch on the Holy Night (Mahoutsukai no Yoru in Japanese) is an enhanced edition of the Type-Moon visual novel released for PC in Japan back in 2012. Published by Aniplex, this console edition will include voices and higher-definition artwork and will also add extra language options for English and Chinese (Simplified and Traditional).

The game tells the story of a trio who lives together in an old western mansion on the outskirts of a Japanese town. Rumors say that a witch lives in the place, and they might actually not be so far-fetched. After all, Aoko Aozaki does study her sorcery in the area under the tutelage of Alice Kuonji.

During the Showa Era (the 1980s), a young man called Soujuurou Shizuki meets the two of them. He comes from a rural area and has slowly been adjusting to the new reality of high school in the city. While he may be an ordinary human, his honest and warm personality makes people feel at home.

In the new edition, Aoko is voiced by Haruka Tomatsu, Kana Hanazawa voices Alice, and Yuusuke Kobayashi voices Soujuurou.
