Type-Moon Visual Novel ‘Witch on the Holy Night’ Now Digitally Available Worldwide for PS4 & Switch

Developer Type-Moon and publisher Aniplex of America have announced that Witch on the Holy Night is now digitally available worldwide for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch.

The standard edition costs $39.99 for both PlayStation 4 and Switch, though the former platform also has a Digital Deluxe edition costing $9.99 more, including the full game and the “Magician’s Basic Tune.”

“Over 100 pages of design materials and creators’ commentary on the characters, setting, and items” are provided, though it’s best experienced after completing the title since spoilers are present.

Lastly, for those uncertain about this visual novel, a free demo is available for both platforms as well.

UPDATE: PlayStation Blog Japan has published a post discussing the game as well as sharing character renders. While the latter may not be new, we’ve never covered it before, so they’re viewable below:

Witch on the Holy Night

Witch on the Holy Night (Mahoutsukai no Yoru in Japanese) is an enhanced edition of the Type-Moon visual novel released for PC in Japan back in 2012. Published by Aniplex, this console edition includes voices and higher-definition artwork and also adds extra language options for English and Chinese (Simplified and Traditional).

The game tells the story of a trio who lives together in an old western mansion on the outskirts of a Japanese town. Rumors say that a witch lives in the place, and they might actually not be so far-fetched. After all, Aoko Aozaki does study her sorcery in the area under the tutelage of Alice Kuonji.

During the Showa Era (the 1980s), a young man called Soujuurou Shizuki meets the two of them. He comes from a rural area and has slowly been adjusting to the new reality of high school in the city. While he may be an ordinary human, his honest and warm personality makes people feel at home.

In the new edition, Aoko is voiced by Haruka Tomatsu, Kana Hanazawa voices Alice, and Yuusuke Kobayashi voices Soujuurou.
