‘Watch Dogs: Legion’ Lets You Play as a Badass Grandma; Launches in March

Today during Ubisoft‘s E3 press conference, the developer and publisher announced that Watch Dogs: Legion, the newest installment of the Watch Dogs franchise from Ubisoft Toronto, will be available worldwide on March 6, 2020 for PlayStation 4,  Xbox One, PC, and Stadia.

Legion is set in the near future, where London is facing a dreadful downfall as people are being oppressed by an all-seeing surveillance state, a corrupt private military corporation controls the streets, and a powerful crime syndicate is preying on the most vulnerable. Thankfully, you’ll be stepping in to help as your mission will be to build a resistance to fight the power that be (insert here: “Fight the Power” by Public Enemy).

Where does a badass grandma come into all this? Well, here’s the deal: Ubisoft Toronto, the studio behind Legion made this insane new system that’ll let players have complete freedom to literally play as anyone. No seriously, players will be able to be any Londoner they want to be, so that means you can choose to be a badass grandma. Every Londoner in Legion‘s world is going to be fully simulated, with a persistent life and backstory, and players can recruit anyone from the entire population into their team.

Every character will also have unique gameplay traits, based on their profile. Choosing a Sex Pistols fan would probably give you the ability to mosh pretty hard, we reckon. Anyway, once a character joins the team, players will then choose their class, level them up, and unlock new abilities and upgrades. Players will also have the option to swiftly swap between characters if they so choose.

Speaking of choice, every choice that players make will indeed have real consequences. For instance, if one of the player’s characters die, well… they’re gone for good. Yes, folks, there will be permadeath in this game, so be ready for that.

When the going gets tough in solo play, or if players just want to buddy up with fellow watchdogs, Legion will offer four-player online co-op, and any progress made in online play will carry over to single-player and vice versa.

For those video game merch or exclusive in-game content fans out there, Ubisoft also announced the Gold, Ultimate and Collector’s editions for the game. Here are more details about each edition:

  • Gold Edition includes the base game and the Season Pass.
  • Ultimate Edition includes Gold Edition and Ultimate digital content, including four weeks VIP Status to earn experience and currency faster.
  • Collector’s Edition includes the Ultimate Edition plus the LED Ded Coronet Mask Replica, an exclusive Steelbook®, a set of three stickers and a recto-verso propaganda poster, all inspired by the game’s universe, and instant access to the mask in-game. Collector’s Edition is exclusive to the Ubisoft Store.

Fans who purchase the Gold, Ultimate or Collector’s editions will be able to get the game up to three days early from the standard release date. Furthermore, those who pre-order the game will receive access to the Golden King Pack with the “Uneasy Lies” Mask Skin, the “Serpent Sisters” Pistol Skin, and the “Lux” Car Skin.

Last but not least, Ubicollectibles revealed Watch Dogs: Legion: Resistant of London, a new Watch Dogs-inspired figurine, which comes with a DLC code that unlocks the in-game mask “King of Hearts”.
