Wandering Sword Doesn’t Shy Away From Looking Exactly Like Octopath Traveler in New Trailer; Demo Confirmed for Steam Next Fest

Spiral Up Games released a new trailer for The Swordman Studio-developed adventure RPG Wandering Sword coming to PC via Steam in 2023.

The game will receive a demo via Steam Next Fest from February 6 through February 28, 2023.

One look at the trailer and you’ll see the influence of the 2D-HD game, Octopath Travel, so much so that it seems a little too similar. The trailer shows off exploration and animations that heavily resemble the Square Enix JRPG, with a battle system similar to Live A Live. I’m interested to see how far these similarities go, but the developers don’t seem to hide that this adventure looks exceptionally identical.

Wandering Sword is developed in Unreal Engine 4. During gameplay, players can explore the lands as they discover new martial arts forms, which can be taught to other party members. Further, weapons can be mastered through a rather complex upgrade tree.

Combat is grid-based and turn-based, but there is also a real-time mode if players wish to play fast. There are multiple endings to the adventure depending on the choices that you make during dialogue and the side quests you complete alongside the main quest.

We’ll keep you updated on the release of Wandering Sword.
