Publisher and developer Bandai Namco have recently filed trademarks for Waffuu Encore and 1&2 Encore in Japan. For those who aren’t aware, the phrase ‘Waffuu,’ translated into English as ‘Wahoo,’ is the catchphrase of the classic platforming video game mascot, Klonoa.
Klonoa is a dormant franchise that debuted on the original PlayStation with Klonoa: Door to Phantomile and its sequel, Klonoa 2: Lunatea’s Veil, released for PlayStation 2. Both titles were well received and earned a strong cult following. Unfortunately, there has been no official word from Bandai Namco on the subject of this franchise’s heavily desired and long-awaited revival, but that might change with these recently filed trademarks.
The 1&2 Encore trademark could be hinting at both Klonoa: Door to Phantomile and Klonoa 2: Lunatea’s Veil receiving a dual-remastered release, but that is undeniably wishful thinking as of now with how vague the trademark itself is. Still, the possibility is present when coupled with the Waffu Encore trademark. Either way, we will simply have to wait and see if Bandai Namco announces anything soon, such as during the upcoming Tokyo Game Show 2021.
Aside from waiting, temper your expectations because these trademarks could very well be preemptive ones filed for prospective announcements planned for the far future.
