Sega is Back in the Fight With Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown Coming to PS4 Next Month

Sega has announced that their arcade fighter Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown will launch digital-only on PlayStation 4 on June 1, 2021.

Virtua Fighter 5 is part of their long-running fighter series that hasn’t received too much love in recent years. Being an arcade title, players of Yakuza 6: The Song of Life could play it on modern consoles, but the series has been exclusive to PS3 and Xbox 360.

Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown is an updated version of the fighter to take part in Sega’s 60th Anniversary project. This is the definitive edition of the game with updated systems and balances for a new generation of players.

The publisher released a trailer highlighting the game’s updated visuals and stage design and confirming multiple playable characters.

Sadly, the digital release on PS4only is a little disappointing as PC players will be left out of the mix, which has a fairly large community of fighting games fans. Further, the lack of a physical version means the game may not reach more fans. Hopefully, the title comes to more platforms in the future.

We’ll be sure to continue coverage of Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown to check out its various updates when it launches in a couple of weeks.
