Horror Farming Sim ‘Village in the Shade’ Gets October Release for Switch 2, Switch, PS5, and PC; Limited Edition Revealed Alongside Gameplay Trailer

Horror farming simulation game Village in the Shade will launch for Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam on October 27, 2026. A new trailer has also been released in two versions, Shade and Sunshine, showing the game’s horror-focused side alongside its quieter farming and countryside gameplay.

The game takes place in Kagatsu, a Japanese mountain village where players can grow crops, customize their home, fish, hunt, and spend time with local residents. Life in the village also comes with several rules: don’t talk to strangers, don’t leave the village, and don’t go outside at night.

Breaking those rules exposes players to the darker side of Kagatsu and the mystery surrounding the village. Players can choose how far they want to push against those restrictions while continuing with the game’s farming and life-sim activities.

For players who would rather avoid the horror content, Village in the Shade includes a separate Village in the Sunshine mode. This mode prevents players from breaking Kagatsu’s rules, allowing them to focus on farming, fishing, hunting, crafting, decorating, and spending time with the village residents without encountering the scenarios tied to breaking those rules.

Players can purchase furniture in town to customize their house and craft fences and other items using resources gathered around the farm. Traditional Japanese festivals and seasonal activities are also included, such as summer festivals and cherry-blossom viewing.

A Limited Edition of Village in the Shade is available to preorder for $89.99. It includes a copy of the game, collector’s box, art book, original soundtrack, acrylic block, and a set of metal pins.

Console versions will support English, French, and Spanish text. The PC version will also include Japanese, Korean, Traditional Chinese, and Simplified Chinese.
