Video Game Creation Software ‘Game Builder Garage’ Announced for Nintendo Switch with a June Release

Nintendo has revealed a new innovative title releasing for the Nintendo Switch this summer, Game Builder Garage. With this software, anyone can both share and create their very own video games. By connecting creatures called Nodon, anyone will be able to learn the basics of visual game programming with guided lessons. No prior experience is necessary either, making this software as approachable as possible.

There are dozens of unique Nodons in Game Builder Garage, with each having its own specified functionalities. A provided example is that Stick Nodon and Person Nodon can be connected to create and move a human-like character. Various genres will be available, such as side-scrolling platformers, kart racers, and space blasters.

Nick Chavez, Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, had this to say about the product:

“For anyone who has always wanted to make their own video games, Game Builder Garage is the perfect place to start. Through the use of guided lessons and memorable Nodon characters, Game Builder Garage helps make creating video games just as much fun as playing them!”

Lesson Mode will be available when first launching the game, which will tutorialize players in enjoyably engaging ways. Checkpoints in the middle of lessons will be used to test players via solving brief puzzles or other tasks.

Free Programming Mode is where all the practice is put to the test. Switching between programming and gameplay is easily performed with the press of a button here, providing a simple yet effective way to test out creations. Games can also be downloaded and exchanged online with friends and family. These downloaded levels can be seen in programming mode too.

Alongside Joy-Cons and the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller being functional, users can also utilize a compatible mouse plugged into the USB port on the Switch’s dock.

Game Builder Garage is launching for Nintendo Switch on June 11 in Nintendo eShop for $29.99.
