Vanillaware President Wants Modern Port of Muramasa The Demon Blade, But Unspecified Issues Are Preventing It

The President of developer Vanillaware, George Kamitani, was recently interviewed by outlet Nintenderos about various subject matter, including the possibility of seeing a modern port of Muramasa The Demon Blade. This Wii action title received a PlayStation Vita port, Muramasa Rebirth, with more content, such as more playable characters via DLC.

In response to the inquiry about a modern port of the game, Kamitani stated the following (via a translation provided by Nintendolife):

“I think we would. I, too, would like to port Muramasa, but there are issues there that I won’t go into…

Our priority now is to start on the homework that has been piling up on us…meaning, get to work on the games that we’ve been planning to make.”

This news has me on the edge of my seat because Muaramasa is my favorite Vanillaware game aside from Odin Sphere, and the idea of seeing it appear on modern platforms, especially on PlayStation 4 with trophy support, with all of the DLC intact, sounds like a dream come true. Of course, it is worth pondering the unspecified issues preventing the port of Muramasa, but hopefully, those will be resolved soon.

If you want to learn more about this title, I wrote a dedicated article about it back in 2021, where I stated my desire for a modern port.

The Vanillaware-developed GrimGrimoire OnceMore will launch for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch on April 4, 2023 via publisher NIS America.
