Valkyrie Elysium Introduces Einherjar & Combat Mechanics; New Renders & Screenshots

PlayStation Blog Japan and Gematsu have shared new character renders and screenshots for the upcoming Square Enix-developed action JRPG, Valkyrie Elysium.

The role of Einherjar is reiterated, with them fighting alongside the protagonist in combat, often embracing supportive roles by utilizing physical combos and elements. They are summoned via the Soul Gauge, which fills when blue souls and items are collected. Their primary benefit is to imbue Valkyrie with their respective elemental property.

Another essential combative tool to take advantage of is Divine Arts, powerful skills found in treasure chests. They are useable from their associated gauge that refills from performing combos and picking up particular items. Further, each Divine Art is instilled with a specific elemental property. The Einherjar summoned at the time will enhance the strength of the Divine Art if it is their associated element. Another mechanic is Soul Chain, allowing quick navigation to enemies and points on the map.

Players will be able to use various weapons, including the following:

  • Sword
  • Spear
  • Rapier
  • Double-Edged Spear

Skills can be manually learned via souls collected from enemies. In addition, the amount of dropped souls can be increased if Valkyrie guards at the right time. Lastly, players can use a training area to summon past foes and battle them once more.
