Type-Moon Shares New Japanese Commercial for The ‘Witch on the Holy Night’ Visual Novel Console Edition

Type-Moon has shared a new commercial for Witch on the Holy Night on their official Youtube account. The video is brief, only showing about 15 seconds of animations of the characters setting up a mysterious mood for the game. The title, also known as Mahoyo, will be released on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch on December 8, 2022. It’ll be the first Type-Moon visual novel to officially include English text as an option.

Witch on the Holy Night (Mahoutsukai no Yoru in Japanese) is an enhanced edition of the Type-Moon visual novel released for PC in Japan back in 2012. Published by Aniplex, this console edition includes voices and higher definition for the artworks, and will also add extra language options for English and Chinese (Simplified and Traditional).

The game tells the story of a trio who lives together in an old western mansion on the outskirts of a Japanese town. Rumors say that a witch lives in the place, and they might actually not be so far-fetched. After all, Aoko Aozaki does study her sorcery in the place under the tutelage of the also young Alice Kuonji.

During the Showa Era (1980s), a young man called Soujuurou Shizuki meets the two of them. He comes from a rural area and has slowly been adjusting to the new reality of high school in the city. While he may be an ordinary human, his honest and warm personality is one that makes people feel really at home near him.

In the new edition, Aoko is voiced by Haruka Tomatsu, Alice is voiced by Kana Hanazawa, and Soujuurou is voiced by Yuusuke Kobayashi. Keep in mind the novel will also have an anime film adaptation by Ufotable, which is likely to use the same cast, though that hasn’t been confirmed yet.
