TYPE-MOON Co-Founder Nasu Has Played Falcom’s Ys Series Yearly Since Ys SEVEN; Has Beaten Ys VIII 3 Times

The co-founder and prominent author from TYPE-MOON, Kinoko Nasu, known for his work on the Fate series, Tsukihime, Witch on the Holy Night, and The Garden of the Sinners, recently conversed with the president of developer Nihon Falcom, Toshihiro Kondo.

In the Newtype October 2023 magazine, the two notable creators discussed various subjects, such as the Ys franchise. However, a portion of this interview was uploaded for free via Newtype’s official website via Kadokawa.

There’s quite a bit to peruse here, with one comment from Nasu particularly standing out. He revealed that he’s a pretty big fan of Ys, to the extent of having played the series yearly since Ys SEVEN and beating Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana around three times. He’s also quite excited about Ys X Nordics.

You can view Nasu’s comment below, translated by our team’s Ryuji:

Nasu: I have always played the Ys series every year since around Ys SEVEN, and I have re-cleared Ys VIII about three times. So, in commemoration of the release of Ys X, I think I will return to Ys IX this summer to see my most favorite “doll” once again.

It’s neat to see that Nasu has good taste, and it’s not surprising that he seems to like Doll from Ys IX: Monstrum Nox. I feel like she wouldn’t be out of place in one of his projects. He and I seem to share a bit of an unexpected commonality, too, as Ys SEVEN was my first Ys and Falcom game, resulting in me following the developer’s work ever since.
