NIS Turn-Based JRPG ‘Xicatrice’ Now Available for PS4, PS5 & Switch in Japan; Launch Trailer
Developer Nippon Ichi Software has announced that their new turn-based JRPG Xicatrice is now available in Japan for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch. There is currently no word on whether the game will greet Western audiences.
Throughout this game, players control a teacher leading seven students on missions responding to emergencies. Choice and immense skill variety are emphasized as the selling points for gameplay, with these students needing to grow after enduring severe hardship and becoming scarred. In fact, Xicatrice means “scar” in French, with the crux of this game comprising the students overcoming their past emotional scars.
Around 100 years since superpowers awakened in society, the Anti-Abnormal Unusual Talent Team (AUT) was created to prevent incidents caused by those wrongly using their powers. However, as these efforts became strained, the Reserve Anti-Unusual Talent Team (RAUT) was then formed to assist in tackling such conflict. This group is made up of the aforementioned students. Now, in 2023, the protagonist is a former member of the AUT who lost their powers after an unknown incident.
Gameplay will have players developing the students’ basic stats and skills by extension, with every character’s specialties differing. Further, the passage of time must also be taken into account when hanging out with the students. Monsters formed from peoples’ negative thoughts will be fought alongside criminals missing their abilities.
Characters who are unable to overcome their past scars and move forward will be swallowed by their agony, resulting in bad ends. Thankfully, bonuses are earned as these bad endings are achieved, making progress easier on other go-arounds.
