It may be daunting to some, but we are exceptionally close to the release of The Legend of Heroes Trails of Cold Steel IV in the west. This entry will conclude the Cold Steel series that players have been pretty much living since it was first released in 2015 on PlayStation 3.
Over the years, we’ve seen the series grow and even re-release on current generation hardware. Each entry acts as a piece of the puzzle that slowly accumulates to this epic climax. So, why not spend a little bit of time with the hype. No, I don’t plan on spoiling the story for you, at least not outside of what you’d see in a basic description of the game, I’m just going to highlight some bullet points.
The Legend of Heroes Trails of Cold Steel IV takes place during some troubled times in the series as the main protagonist Rean Schwarzer has been capture. The new students of Class VII will find themselves on a mission to save Rean as well as learn more about what Giliath Osborne has planned.
Trails of Cold Steel IV is meant to be pure fanservice. Players will play as new and returning characters and visit cities that they may remember from years prior. It acts as a nostalgic trip as these characters approach their final battle. Many elements from Trails of Cold Steel III can be found here, including the game’s overall visuals and battle system. I would have liked to see some improvements to these systems, but the trade-off here is that you get so many new characters in your party that keep things feeling fresh.
It was mentioned that save data from Trails of Cold Steel I, II, and III will carry over to Trails of Cold Steel IV for a few bonuses to those loyal fans. Also, clear data from Trails of Cold Steel III will have an added effect that carries over relationship levels, and AP received from side quests and bonuses. These will be pretty much consumables and basic quartz to begin your adventure.
The publisher added that there would not be a playable demo of Trails of Cold Steel IV like there was with Cold Steel III. They also added that a full collection of each of the games on PS4 is not something they can do since a different publisher handled the first two titles.
All we can do now is wait for the western release of The Legend of Heroes Trails of Cold Steel IV. However, if you can’t, we have some gameplay below that might hold you over:
The Legend of Heroes Trails of Cold Steel IV is coming to PlayStation 4 on October 27, and Nintendo Switch and PC in 2021.
