Ankake Spa has announced Touhou: Blossom Blade, a remastered edition of its December 30, 2011, 3D bullet-hell action game Youyou Kengeki Musou, coming to PC via Steam with a release date to be announced.
The fangame revisits Ankake Spa’s earliest work, known today for Touhou: Scarlet Curiosity and Touhou: New World, and once again stars Konpaku Youmu in a stage-based action title built around simple controls and classic Touhou bullet-hell elements.
The story follows Youmu, a gardener, guard, and sword instructor to Saigyouji Yuyuko of Hakugyokurou. After scolding Yuyuko for neglecting her training, Youmu is told she lacks the skill to train at all. Yuyuko then challenges her to prove herself by defeating Hakurei Reimu, the shrine maiden who has resolved Gensokyo’s many incidents.
The gameplay centers on three skills with distinct strengths: a movement-focused dash that can deal damage and extend jumps, an area-damage ability for clearing groups, and a ranged attack for enemies waiting across gaps or at a distance. A powerful Spell Card acts as a high-damage option. Maintaining continuous attacks raises a combo counter, increasing score and accelerating skill recharge. Players can choose between Easy, Normal, and Hard. The soundtrack features Touhou arrangements by Shoichiro Sakamoto (Sound Sepher).
The Steam remaster features dedicated buttons for each of Youmu’s skills instead of the previous toggle system. It also includes Steam achievements, balance adjustments, more breakable objects, HUD updates, and removal of fall penalties.
