Today we are going to share with you our top entries of the beloved Atelier series. This RPG has been around since the ‘90s and has provided us with hours of crafting and adventures, but mostly waifus. Regardless of why you play the titles, here are our top 5 entries of the Atelier series.
Atelier Iris: Eternal Mana
As the first entry of a saga of titles, Atelier Iris happened to be the first Atelier title to come west on PS2. The story follows Klein, the grandson of a world-renowned alchemist who is traveling to perfect his craft. Set in a world divided by war, Klien aims to research more about alchemy that has shaped the history of the game’s world. Featuring memorable characters and the fact that it was was the first title to come west, this entry holds a special place in our hearts.
Atelier Shallie: Alchemists of the Dusk Sea
Atelier Shallie allows the player to experience the story as one of two protagonists who are conveniently both named Shallie. This title takes a more emotional approach as the world’s water supply is dwindling, but it still knows how to have fun. Players will find some enormous steps forward in terms of crafting and exploration as the title introduced many new mechanics. Ultimately, this game offers a great conclusion of the Dusk saga, which also contains the amazing Atelier Escha & Logy.
Atelier Sophie: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Book
Atelier Sophie brought the series to a new console generation and also introduced us to some fantastic characters. Players follow Sophie, who is aiming to be a more capable alchemist. One day, she comes across a book that teaches her alchemy. Well, it just so happens that this book is actually a powerful alchemist named Plachta, who has lost her memories. Over time, players will uncover the truth about Plachta and those who intend to use her power for evil.
Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout
Being the newest entry in the series, Atelier Ryza quickly captured our hearts as one of the best entries that the series has received in years. Following Ryza, players were able to explore a new region and meet many new characters, as Ryza found her place in the world. Fans discovered many new elements within the game’s streamlined battle system and additional crafting mechanics that it made it feel as if the series entered a new era. At the same time, newcomers had the opportunity to play a refined title, made it an absolute must-play entry.
Atelier Rorona: The Alchemist of Arland
If we’re going to be specific, we are mostly talking about Atelier Rorona Plus, which adds additional content to the base game. When you hear people talking about the “Time Mechanics” of an Atelier game, they are most likely referencing one of the Arland entries. Still, for us, Rorona introduced us to some fantastic characters and also presented some huge steps forward in terms of trying new things in the long-running series. We all look back fondly on this adventure and regard it as our favorite entry to date.
