“There are No Plans for a Worldwide Release” for Dragon Quest X

During the Dragon Quest 35th Anniversary Special, Square Enix decided to reveal some information about Dragon Quest X Online, which is planning on launching its Version 6 update this Fall.

However, this news is exclusive to Japan and has been since the game launched 10 years ago. Regardless of fan demand, Dragon Quest X will remain exclusive to Japan. Just so there is no confusion, producer Koji Aoyama celebrated the 10th anniversary by talking about the upcoming expansion. However, one thing caught our eye in the bottom right corner with a message saying, “There are no plans for a worldwide release.”

This is an ongoing trend for the live stream after Dragon Quest X Offline was shown, but the same alert appeared to set expectations of western fans.

Dragon Quest X launched in 2012, and since its release has found its way onto multiple platforms, including Wii, Wii U, PS4, 3DS, Switch, PC, and mobile devices. The game features new stories within the Dragon Quest universe, but at this point, there might be too much content to translate for worldwide audiences.

We were hoping this would be the year, but there’s always the next anniversary.
