The Witcher 4 Formally Announced At The Game Awards 2024

Though it was soft-announced a while back in a CD Projekt Red shareholder presentation, The Witcher IV has finally been formally revealed with a hefty cinematic trailer at The Game Awards 2024.

A New Chapter in The Witcher Saga

Following the events of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (seemingly in the ending where Ciri continues her path as a Witcher rather than retiring), the fourth entry sees an older Ciri setting out on her own new story. The cinematic trailer sees her using her special abilities to utilize special powers unlike the Signs used by previous protagonist Geralt, as well as a new chain weapon. Gameplay was not shown, but the title is being developed in Unreal Engine 5, and aims to be “the most immersive and ambitious open-world Witcher game to date.”

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt released for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2015, and received a current-gen update in 2023, which I myself reviewed.

No further information was revealed at this time, but rest assured you can stay tuned to Noisy Pixel and we’ll release any new information as it comes out. Check out the cinematic trailer below.

“We’re kicking off a brand-new Witcher saga, this time with Ciri as the heart of the story!” said Sebastian Kalemba, Game Director. “It feels so good to finally be able to say those words — for the longest time we knew that we wanted Ciri to be the protagonist of The Witcher IV; it just felt natural to us and we believe that Ciri deserves it. In this game we want to explore what it means to truly become a witcher by following Ciri on her Path. This trailer is a taste of both that, and just how dark and grounded the world of The Witcher can be.”

What Else is in the Works?

In addition to this fourth entry, the publisher and developer are also working on a remake of the first title, as well as a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel code-named Project Orion.
