The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog Achieves Over 1 Million Downloads
The social media manager for the official Sonic the Hedgehog Twitter account has announced that the latest video game release for the series, The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog, has achieved over one million downloads on Steam and that, at least at the time of the published tweet, is the 61st highest rated game on the platform of all time.
While this may sound absurd to someone who knows little of this franchise, I’m pretty happy about this news. For as much of a joke as this title initially seemed when it stealth-launched near April Fool’s, it has genuinely become one of my favorite games ever made. Its dialogue and artwork are fantastic, with some of the best character interaction in the franchise. Seeing such well-written banter in a Sonic game would have been unprecedented for the past decade if not for Sonic Frontiers, thankfully, and hopefully, setting a new standard.
I sincerely hope another Sonic visual novel is released, but I won’t hold my breath.
In The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog, it’s Amy Rose’s birthday, and on the Mirage Express, she’s hosting a murder mystery party. The main man himself, Sonic, is the supposed victim, and everyone sets off to find out who the culprit is. However, is this really just a game, or is something more…sussy going on in the background?
Players will interrogate various Sonic characters as a new worker on the Mirage Express and also meet the Conductor, who’s retiring from his occupation. Players can also look forward to a vast variety of new artwork of characters and environments.
