The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Staff Discuss Link’s Right Arm, “Hands” Theme & More
Nintendo has released a lengthy interview for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom ahead of the game’s launch later this week. The following staff members were featured in this interview:
- Producer of the Legend of Zelda series – Eiji Aonuma
- Tears of the Kingdom director – Hidemaro Fujibayashi
- Tears of the Kingdom Technical director – Takuhiro Dohta
- Tears of the Kingdom Art director – Satoru Takizawa
- Tears of the Kingdom Sound director – Hajime Wakai
The general theme of the interview’s first part was a discussion revolving around what the team decided to keep from Breath of the Wild and what had to be changed to ensure that this entry would still be a fresh experience. Plus, a few points are brought up when comparing Tears of the Kingdom’s diving mechanic inspired by Skyward Sword.
On the other hand, the second part of the interview was more unique, as it discussed how hands are a strong theme of this title. Link’s right arm, in particular, is emphasized as the primary tool for solving the various puzzles players will encounter. Also, contrasting Breath of the Wild, which was a relatively lonely journey, Tears of the Kingdom will showcase greater character cooperation. Plus, while initially unintentional, Link’s name being “Link” is, well, a happy coincidence.
The third part of this Tears of the Kingdom interview will be released on May 10, 2023.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will launch for Nintendo Switch on May 12, 2023, for $69.99. The pricing has been a rather controversial subject, with Nintendo staff, including Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser, commenting that they believe the game is worthy of that price point.
