Throughout The Legend of Heroes: Trails to Azure, several characters have an affinity with the protagonist, Lloyd, that is somewhat hidden. By examining the Record tab in the System menu and scrolling to the bottom, you can see heart icons for several characters indicating their affection levels.

Unlike Trails from Zero, the primary playable party isn’t the only set of characters who have affection toward Lloyd; many, like KeA and Ilya, also possess that value. After playing through the game twice, I have marked down several instances in which a character’s affection level rose, so I have compiled each of those occasions below.

During the game’s Finale, there is a segment where you can choose a final bonding event with someone in the playable party (sans Dudley), granting you exclusive scenes and achievements. But characters are only selectable if their affection level has been maxed. Still, you can save just before this last choice is made, and saving after each option in separate files will save every outcome to the system data. This is pretty convenient since completionists can get all the final character bonding achievements reasonably quickly.

Dudley and the characters who are not playable are not selectable during that aforementioned event. Instead, you’ll have to talk to them at a certain point in the Finale to obtain accessories if their affinity levels are maxed.

Before moving on, it’s worth noting that if one is playing Trails to Azure on the same device they beat Trails from Zero on, they can transfer the latter’s clear data to the former when beginning a new game. As a result, Lloyd Bannings’ bond levels with the SSS members from Trails from Zero, Elie MacDowell, Tio Plato, and Randy Orlando will fully carry over.

However, I can’t personally vouch for this since I played Zero and Azure on two separate systems. But if this is the case, and you have maxed affection with Elie, Tio, and Randy at the start, you can prioritize getting affection for the other characters.

To double-check myself, I cross-referenced my guide GameFaqs guide written by Zoel. Their guide was for the Vita version of the title, which has its own exclusive content, but I’m fairly certain I’ve compiled every affection alteration in this specific version of the game.

The affinity points are listed below:

• Start of Chapter 1, Day 1 – Speak to Rixia at Arc en Ciel in the Entertainment District for an event that raises her affinity.
• Star of Chapter 1, Day 1 – Speak to KeA in the Cathedral on Mountain Path to raise her affinity.
• Start of Chapter 1, Day 2 – Speaking to Fran at the Crossbell Police Department in the Administrative District will raise her affinity.
• Start of Chapter 1, Day 2 -Speaking to Sully at the shack in the Crossbell Graveyard will raise her affinity.
• Start of Chapter 2, Day 1 – Talk to Ilya and company at Arc en Ciel in the Entertainment District for affinity for the former.
• Start of Chapter 2, Day 1 – Speak to KeA and Shizuku on the second floor of the Bracer Guild for affinity for the former.
• During the Xin in the City (Hidden Quest) in Chapter 2, Day 1 – The party member you select for the tour will receive heightened affinity.
• After completing The Doctor is In (Required) quest in Chapter 2, Day 1 – Talk to Cecile in her room on Le Lectier Inn’s third floor to raise her affinity.
• Start of Chapter 2, Day 2 – Speak to Sully on the third floor of the Villa-Raisins apartments on West Street to raise her affinity.

At the start of Chapter 2, Day 2, do the following:

Speak to Dudley at the Crossbell Police Department and then talk to the following individuals:

• Ozelle the ramen stall owner in the Harbor District
• Cunha, the blonde lady, slowly walking around the Harbor District.
• Cronk, the vendor in the bottom left of East Street.
• Sophie, the ice cream stall vendor in the Entertainment District.
• Lechter in the lower level of the Residential District near the fishing spot and the Geofront entrance
• Kilika, on the second floor Vingt-Sept Café in Central Square

Report back to Dudley and answer with “To hold a private meeting” to raise his affinity.

• At the start of Chapter 2, Day 3 – Talk to Fran in the Crossbell Police Department twice to raise her affinity and get her Pom! Pom! Party! ID.
• At the start of Chapter 2, Day 3 – Talk to KeA in the Administrative District’s Library on the second floor to raise her affinity.
• At the start of Chapter 2, Day 3 – Talk to Rixia in the Lotus Heights apartments in the Downtown District in her room for raised affinity.
• During the Inspection on the Rails (Optional Quest) on Chapter 2, Day 3, the party member you end up with after the rock-paper-scissors game will get raised affinity. The following choices guarantee their respective party member:

Choosing:

• Rock twice gets you Noel
• Scissors twice gets you Wazy
• Scissors then Rock gets you Tio
• Scissors, then Paper gets you Elie
• Rock, then Paper gives you Randy.

There may be other combinations, but each party member is accounted for above.

• During the Intermission – The Volleyball minigame will raise affinity if you win for who you partner with. Illya’s victory is Choice 1, while everyone else is Choice 2. You get 2 volleyball games to raise affinity.
• During the Intermission, when applying sunscreen on Elie, Cecile, and Rixia, the one you choose to do it first to will gain raised affinity.
• During the Intermission, when constructing the sand castle, choose “Just a little” and then “Quickly and gently.” The name you choose will raise either Fran or Tio’s affinity.
• During the Intermission, when Randy asks Lloyd which character he likes the most, the chosen one will gain raised affinity.
• During The Swimsuit Snipping Situation (Hidden Quest) in the Intermission, the girl you chose will receive raised affinity.
• During the Intermission, any characters you choose for the attractions with your five tickets will get raised affinity.
• During the Mee-hee-Hide-and-Seek (Hidden Quest) in the Intermission, the character you choose to accompany Lloyd may get more affinity (not entirely sure).

After you’re done at the Mishelam theme park, Lloyd will be alone with the party member he has the highest affinity with. If you have 10,000 mira when you enter the Diamante jewelry store, you can buy them a gift and receive one in turn.

• At the start of Chapter 3, Day 1 – Speak to KeA in her room to raise her affinity.
• At the start of Chapter 3, Day 1- Speak to Ilya in Arc en Ciel at the Entertainment District for an event that raises her affinity.
• During The Counterfeit Caper (Optional Quest) on the first day of Chapter 3, the character you choose will gain raised affinity.
• At the start of Chapter 3, Day 2 – Talk to Dudley on the second floor of the Times Department Store in Central Square to raise his affinity.
• At the start of Chapter 3, Day 2 – Talk to KeA on the second floor of the Crossbell Library in the Administrative District to raise her affinity.
• At the start of Chapter 3, Day 2 – Talk to Cecile and Shizuku in the latter’s room, 304, in St. Ursula Medical College to raise the former’s affinity.
• At the start of Chapter 3, Day 3 – Speak to Rixia at Long Lao Tavern & Inn on East Street to raise her affinity.
• Before entering the Wetlands on Chapter 3, Day 3 – Speak to Fran at the Crossbell Police Department in the Administrative District to raise her affinity.
• At the start of Chapter 4, Day 1 – Speak to KeA in her room to raise her affinity.
• At the start of Chapter 4, Day 1 – Speak to Dudley at Garante in the Back Alley to raise his affinity.

SPOILERS FROM THIS POINT ONWARD

After clearing the Thaumaturgical Sector in the Finale, you can do the following:

• Speak to Fran on the Merkabah if her affinity is maxed for an accessory.
• Speaking to Dudley on the Merkabah. If his bond points are maxed, you will be granted the enhanced Hearts of Iron 2 combination craft.
• Speak to Sully in Arc en Ciel at the Entertainment District, and if you have enough affinity, she’ll give you an accessory.
• If you talk to Cecile outside of St. Ursula Medical College with her affinity maxed, she’ll give you an accessory.
• If you talk to Ilya in her room (Room 303) twice with her affinity maxed, she’ll give you an accessory.
• Assuming you have high enough bonding points with KeA and you gave her the biggest Whitestones back during the Intermission, examine her desk in her room at the SSS building for the Divine Zero Orb accessory.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails to Azure is now available in North America on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam the Epic Games Store, and GOG.
