Publisher NIS America has updated the Western website of the Nihon Falcom JRPG The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak.

A brief timeline highlighting select portions of the history of the Zemurian continent, which significantly impacted Calvard, has been shared. Further, several organizations present in Calvard have been detailed.

The Calvard timeline is quoted below:

    • Erebonia invades Calvard, starting the Battle of Jormungandr

    1207

    • Roy Gramheart is inaugurated as the 23rd President of Calvard
    • War reparations paid by Erebonia result in an unprecedented period of prosperity for Calvard
    • Crossbell State formally regains its independence

Several organizations present throughout Calvard are detailed below:

    The Republic of Calvard

    calvard

One of the largest nations in Zemuria, located in the midwestern part of the continent.

It was founded as a monarchy, but a revolution a century ago saw its nobility overthrown and its government converted to a democratic republic.

Over the years, Calvard engaged in many bloody disputes with its western neighbor, Erebonia, over Crossbell—a small territory caught between the two superpowers. In recent years, however, events have led to Crossbell gaining its full independence and establishing itself as an autonomous state.

Though this resulted in Calvard no longer receiving tax revenue from Crossbell, the reparations Erebonia paid after the Great War launched Calvard into an unprecedented era of prosperity. The Republic is now poised to become the most powerful nation on the continent, both economically and militarily.

    The Septian Church

    septain

Centered around the worship of the Goddess of the Sky, Aidios, the Septian Church is the most widespread religion in Zemuria.

The church was first established in the wake of the Great Collapse that destroyed the ancient Zemurian civilization, acting as a beacon amidst chaos. Though its influence has declined somewhat since the Orbal Revolution, it continues to enlighten the people in the fields of philosophy, education, and medicine.

    The Bracer Guild

    guild

An international private organization that prioritizes the safety and well-being of civilians. Its members, investigation and combat specialists known as bracers, take on requests from the local population at one of the guild’s many branches.

Common folk regard them as heroes, and they can be found in every major city. However, the trade-off that allows bracers to function across the continent is a strict non-interference policy when it comes to government affairs. This policy can tie a bracer’s hands and leave them powerless when they find themselves up against certain problems.

Moreover, in Calvard’s current booming postwar environment, Jaegers and criminal organizations have flocked to the Republic, seeking to take advantage of the influx of money. This means more and more issues that the bracers are unable to solve above board.

Many such cases find their way to backroom consultants calling themselves spriggans, who will handle the problem for hefty fees. Naturally, most bracers have a dim view of this state of affairs.

    Jaeger Corps

    jager

Mercenary groups that take any mission that pays well, with no regard to the job’s legality. Being typically hired by crime rings or as black ops for governments, they tend to stick to the fringes of society, and keep a low profile even when fighting in all-out wars.

    Spriggan

    spriggan

A back-alley job born from the melting pot that is the Republic of Calvard. They tend to take requests from a wide variety of people asking for a wide variety of things.

A spriggan may be a detective one day, a negotiator the next, and a bounty hunter the day after that. Since above-board jobs go to either the police or the Bracer Guild, the jobs spriggans specialize in are such things as requests that citizens can’t bring to the authorities, tasks the CID would rather not have the bracers know about, or even jobs from criminals or underground organizations—in all cases, jobs that skirt the line of legality.

    The Marduk Company

    marduk

A private military company offering “total security solutions.” It is based in the independent territory of Ored, northwest of Calvard. When it was first founded 10 years ago, it provided security services to companies around the continent. In recent years, however, it has expanded its operations tremendously to include outright military operations.

Though at first glance, Marduk might seem to provide similar services to jaegers, the main thing that sets Marduk apart is their focus on skirting—but not crossing—the lines of legality in the countries where they do business, earning them high-value contracts with companies that prefer to avoid risking untoward attention.

Outside of security and military services, they also develop and test their own CQC techniques and equipment before providing them to armies and jaegers across Zemuria—for a fee, of course. They also buy data from especially talented testers. All of this assistance is provided through their service concierges.

    The Verne Company

    verne

A large technology company headquartered in the engineering city of Basel, in the southwest of Calvard.

While it’s often brought up in the same breath as the Reinford Group, its nature as a hybrid between an industrial manufacturer and an academic institution leaves it a little less agile. However, this dual focus results in a multifaceted and carefully considered approach to development of new products.

Where Liberl’s ZCF was born from the Zeiss Clockmaker’s Union, and Erebonia’s Reinford Company has its roots in gunpowder cannons, the Verne Company was formed from a combination of Basel’s Artisan’s Guild and the Institute of Science. Some of the company’s earliest focuses include telescopes, architecture, irrigation, and mechanical looms.

Fifty years ago, Latoya Hamilton, one of three disciples to the orbment inventor Professor Epstein, brought orbal technology to Basel and spread it through the Republic from there. Professor Hamilton’s consultation helped Verne develop Zemuria’s first orbal vehicle. Their research into capturing the sights through their telescopes was also key to the groundbreaking technologies of orbal photography and projection. Orbal projection technology in turn led to the development of orbal cinema, a form of popular entertainment that can only be enjoyed in the Republic.

    The Central Intelligence Department (CID)

    cid

The intelligence branch of the Calvard government, working directly with the President’s office. During the long era of cold war between the Empire and the Republic, Erebonia established its Intelligence Division and began collecting information both within its borders and without.

In response, President Rocksmith put together the Presidential Intelligence and Research Office—better known as the Rocksmith Agency. Two years of provisional operation later, and now with talent collected from all branches of government, it was officially relaunched as the CID.

When he assumed power, the incoming President Gramheart organized the CID into three branches with the aim of giving the President full access to and control over all the collected intelligence. The Integrated Analysis Division was then set up to coordinate the separate branches, and Kilika Rouran, who was involved in the original formation of the CID, was appointed to lead it directly by the president.

    Ikaruga

    ikaruga

A mysterious martial order headquartered somewhere in the increasingly barren eastern reaches of the continent.

They make use of the latest techniques in weapon manufacturing to outfit their many masters of the tachi, a weapon from eastern Zemuria, and their covert units of shinobi, trained in many forms of warfare and intelligence. They are whispered of in the East as the ultimate fighting force.

Their combat styles have names such as the shinobi’s Rougetsu school or the tachi school known as Black God One Blade, but their nature and origins are veiled in secrecy.

    Almata

    almata

A mafia organization which has been rapidly gaining power in the Republic.

For years, the criminal underworld has largely followed the rules and conventions established by Heiyue—a crime syndicate based out of the Eastern Quarter. These rules prohibit such things as the distribution of illicit drugs and human trafficking.

Almata, however, blatantly flouts these conventions, and this, combined with their rapidly increasing forces filled with jaeger dropouts and felons, makes them uniquely dangerous.

Having crossed far too many lines, Almata has caught the attention of both the CID and the Bracer Guild—each organization launching their own investigations into the mafia. However, no one has been able to pin the criminal group down, and a number of infiltrators have gone missing without a trace.

There are even rumors that Almata has ties to Ouroboros, the secret society that operates in the shadows of Zemuria…

The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak is the eleventh mainline entry in the Trails series, taking place after the events of The Legend of Heroes: Trails into Reverie. Following the war with Erebonia initiated by Operation Jormungandr, the Republic of Calvard has thrived economically thanks to reparations. Within this chaotic republic, protagonist Van Arkride makes his living as a Spriggan. This profession takes on the roles of many as it remains within the gray confines of legality that legitimate avenues of employment can’t accept for one reason or another.

The English cast has been unveiled, and physical pre-orders are available with a special limited edition.

Character profiles and numerous English screenshots have also been posted.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak will be released for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC on July 5, 2024.
