New The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero Trailer Introduces Combo Crafts, Elemental Sepith Values, Team Rush & More
Publisher NIS America has shared a new trailer for the upcoming Nihon Falcom-developed turn-based JRPG, The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero, highlighting this entry’s combat mechanics.
Various Trails staples are showcased, such as Crafts, which are character-specific battle skills that stem from a gauge called CP. Crafts differ in practical utility, from attacking enemies with distinct ranges to providing buffs or healing for the party. CP is gained by successfully hitting foes in the midst of combative encounters.
Quartz are shown next, using the same equipable system as the Trails in the Sky trilogy. Essentially, each Quartz grants its own strengths like stat increases or spells called Arts. Further, they influence an elemental Sepith system that determines which Arts are learned.
To simplify it as much as possible, Sepith is a raw material found via exploration, combat, and quest completion. It can then be redeemed to forge Quartz, and they each have their own element. Depending on the quality and amount of the element being instilled within one’s arsenal, more proficient Arts of that same element will be provided.
A new mechanic introduced in the Crossbell duology is Team Rush, united team assaults that decimate foes. These occurrences are turn bonuses, meaning they aren’t activated manually. This means that players should plan around their contextual arrival signaled by the turn bar on the left of the screen.
The final combative tool highlighted is S-Crafts, another Trails staple. These are characters’ ultimate battle skills and require at least 100 CP, though more potent versions can be triggered when at one’s maximum CP threshold, 200 CP. Most characters’ S-Crafts simply deal significant damage with the occasional status effect. On the other hand, some, like Elie, significantly heal the party, making their boons diverse.
The Crossbell duology also introduces a new variation of S-Crafts called Combo Crafts, where two party members team up to perform a combined strike. However, these coalesced skills necessitate CP from both participants. The trailer teases one of these maneuvers with Elie and Tio, called “Cold Gehenna.”
