The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero 100% Guide; Quests, Recipes, Books, Fish & More
Like most other Trails games, The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero contains a slew of missable collectibles, quests, and more that are required for full 100% completion. The purpose of this guide is not to act as a full-on walkthrough for the game since progression is rather straightforward, especially with Lloyd’s Detective Notebook telling you where to go at most times. The dungeons are also fairly self-explanatory. Instead, this guide lists every quest, rare enemy, chest amount per area, and other similar factors.
The second page of this guide contains lists for all fish, recipes, books, unique Quartz, rare enemies, treasure chest amounts per area, all Records (achievements), and extra information.
- Check out our review for The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero.
- Check out all of the in-game treasure chest messages exclusive to this localized release.
Unlike the Trails in the Sky trilogy and Trails of Cold Steel tetralogy, the Crossbell titles have in-game achievement trackers in the Record menu. These achievements are saved in your system data and are not strictly tied to singular save files. So, for instance, if you start a brand file after having beaten the game, every Record you achieved during your prior playthrough(s) will still be in the main menu. The PlayStation trophies and Steam achievements also mimic what the in-game Records are.
Moreover, like the older Tales of games’ Grade system, earning these Records grants you points. These points are then used in the Extras menu, which is unlocked after beating the game once. Several bonuses can be received here, with the most significant being carry-over bonuses for NG+. For those aiming to obtain every Record, prioritizing these carry-over bonuses is imperative. Details regarding these bonuses are discussed on page 2 of this guide.
To get every achievement, only 2 playthroughs are required, but I recommend doing 3. This may sound intimidating, but trust me, Trails from Zero is an exceedingly short game if you use Turbo and just gun through the main story. It’s an experience highly dependent on town exploration and side activities, so if a player just ignores all that and speeds through the main story, they can complete the game in less than a day.
There are achievements tied to character affinity for Tio, Randy, and Elie, as there is a final bonding scene with each of them depending on whose affinity is the highest. And while there is a way to see all of these scenes in one playthrough via taking advantage of the Records saving to your system data rather than just your file, I wouldn’t bother stressing over it. In the Prologue, Chapter 3, and the Intermission, there are three choices requiring Lloyd to choose between the three core party members for a specific task. Simply choose the same character all three times to guarantee their final bonding event being shown.
Just focus on choosing one character across all choices per playthrough. There is one instance where a specific choice will grant you 3 records, and I will detail when that choice arrives. I advise choosing every option for this particular choice on your first playthrough for the Record points.
I should also note that there is an NG+ exclusive dungeon, but it does not count for the Record for completing all quests. However, it does have new enemies, so keep that in mind for when you’re scanning foes during your first playthrough. You can carry over your enemy scans on NG+. There are treasure chests in the NG+ dungeon, too, and those do count for the Record requiring you to open all of them in one playthrough. So, this makes that Record impossible to achieve in 1 playthrough. All treasure chests must be opened in 1 playthrough as the data where they have been opened does not carry over to the best of my knowledge.
Spend your first playthrough enjoying the story and being on the lookout for doing all quests, scanning enemies, catching all fish, and getting all recipes on either Easy or Normal mode. You’ll also reach maximum detective rank here, which requires a specific threshold of DP obtained from choosing correct choices and completing quests. Go for one character’s final bonding achievement.
Spend your second playthrough on NG+ Nightmare mode while carrying everything over from your prior playthrough to make the process as swift and painless as possible. The Nightmare and Hard mode trophies are simultaneously obtained if one beats the game on Nightmare. Go for another character’s final bonding achievement.
Lastly, spend your third playthrough grabbing every treasure chest and getting the Record requiring you to beat the game under Level 40. You’ll want to carry over every NG+ bonus except for Status, which includes character levels. Go for the last character’s final bonding achievement.
Make a save split once you reach the start of Chapter 4. From here, you’ll want to make your way through the main story while doing nothing else and avoiding all optional encounters, including monster chests. In the final dungeon, make sure your two guest characters are KO’d for its entire duration so they don’t gain any EXP putting them over level 40. Then, once beating the game there, reload the save branch you made at the start of Chapter 4, and go back to opening every chest, as well as completing the NG+ exclusive dungeon accessible in the Finale. You’ll also end up getting every enemy scan if you didn’t miss any before this point.
The second and third playthroughs are interchangeable so do whichever step you like first.
Regarding the treasure chests, I highly recommend equipping the Detection Quartz, which is earliest obtained from defeating the Megalo Bat boss in the Prologue. It will mark treasure chests on the mini-map.
With that lengthy preamble out of the way, the walkthrough for the game’s quests, DP acquisition, and missables is viewable below. This is primarily meant for one’s first playthrough. If there are any notable inaccuracies with this guide, please let me know.
PROLOGUE
Geofront A-Sector has 8 Treasure Chests.
Choose to bring Anri with you for Bonus DP.
For the fight where you protect Anri and Ryu, grind to level 5 on Nightmare and max out everyone’s CP. Choose the first option when initiating the battle to earn a preemptive strike.
To get extra DP, you have to avoid them getting hit. I advise spending everyone’s first turn to get closer to the enemies on the field, then using Randy’s and Tio’s maxed S-Crafts since they’re AOE. Lloyd’s S-Craft should also be used to kill any of the enemies closest to Ryu. This does rely on some luck since there’ll likely be one enemy remaining, and you’ll have to hope it targets your party rather than Ryu. This is why I advise spending everyone’s first turns to get closer since, in my experience, the enemy AI has a likelier chance of targeting the party that way.
STORY
You can feed Coppe, the cat on the SSS’s roof, when you can freely explore. Doing so from Chapter 1 onward will grant you a unique Quartz. However, you can also do this during the Prologue, even if it won’t count via Cat Food. This food is obtained by failing to cook a dish as Tio. I, in particular, got it from the Happy Ham Sandwich (shown in a bit) recipe. You’ll receive 3 Fish Fillet ingredients from doing this task, but I wouldn’t stress over it. It’s super minor.
Quest – Support Request Explanation – Required
You’ll automatically receive this quest during the Prologue. Simply report to the Police Department Receptionist in the Administrative District, Rebecca. Head back to SSS HQ to report this quest via the terminal to obtain 5 DP and 1500 Mira.
Recipe – Happy Ham Sandwich – Received when first entering Morges Bakery on West Street and talking to Oscar. He’ll also give you the Recipe Book. He’ll automatically approach you with the recipe and Recipe Book later if you don’t initiate a talk with him. You also must get this recipe first before gaining the two other recipes listed below.
Recipe – Vanilla Au Lait – Speak to Sophie, the ice cream vendor outside in the Entertainment District.
Recipe – Crispy Fry – In the Fisherman’s Guild on East Street, enter the second floor and examine the nearby bookshelf.
Book – Back Alley Doctor Glenn Chapter 1 – Speak to Novas in the Library within the Administrative District.
Book – Crossbell Times – Issue 1 – Purchasable via either the Times Department Store in Central Square or Tally’s General Store on West Street.
- Hidden Chest – Head back to Geofront A-Sector, accessible from Station Street, and go up the ladder that you weren’t able to during the story. You’ll emerge in Central Square within the vicinity of the bell, which also has a chest nearby containing 30 of each Sepith.
- Hidden Chest – In the Downtown District, hug the wall to the southwest from where the Trinity Bar’s entrance is located. You’ll quickly find a hidden pathway leading upwards to a rooftop, housing a treasure chest containing Flower Pumps.
- Hidden Chest – In the Villa-Raisins Apartments on West Street, you can walk behind the ground floor’s staircase, leading to the outside. Following the path will net you a treasure chest with the Eagle Eye Quartz.
Quest – Lost Item Search
Obtained from the SSS Terminal after completing “Support Request Explanation.” Speak to Tront on the second floor of Hotel Millennium in the Entertainment District, then talk to Times Department Store receptionists in Central Square to receive the Man’s Wallet. Next, go talk to Marte, the fish vendor, at East Street to receive the Souvenier.
Afterward, speak to the Harbor vendor Zell for more intel before finally speaking to Cunha, the wandering NPC, to receive the Republic Bound Ticket. Conclude this quest by reporting to Tront in the same room he was originally at in the hotel. Reporting back to the SSS Terminal will provide +3 DP and 1,000 Mira.
Quest – Vacancy Verification
Obtained from the SSS Terminal after completing “Support Request Explanation.”
Speak to Receptionist Shion at Crossbell City Hall in the Administrative District to obtain the Vacancy List. Next, go to the following locations.
- Examine the gate closest to the northeast of the Residental District.
- Talk to the NPCs in the Fisherman’s Guild on East Street, then examine the locked door on the second floor of the Acacia Apartments on the same street.
- In the Downtown District, enter the Lotus Heights apartments and examine the locked door on the second floor.
Conclude the quest by reporting back to Shion and then at the SSS Terminal to receive +3 DP and 1,000 Mira.
Quest – Geofront A1 Sector Monster Extermination – Required
Obtained from the SSS Terminal after completing “Support Request Explanation.” Enter Geofront A1 via Station Street and reach the ending of it again to battle the Megalo Bat. Report at the SSS terminal to receive 5 DP and 1,500 Mira.
When at the Downtown District for the story, choose the following for Bonus DP:
- Reveal your Detective Notebook
- Handle it ourselves
During the required Trinity Bar scene, select “The wounds on the victim” for Bonus DP
The required battle with Wald on Nightmare can be troublesome if you’re intending on gaining extra DP. Prevailing against him gives Bonus DP, and since Lloyd is solo here, it’s not exactly painless.
You’ll want to go into the Tactics menu and place Lloyd at the very back since Wald normally initiates the fight by hitting you if you’re up closer. Afterward, simply swap between normal attacking, healing, and S-Crafting. Buffing here isn’t really all that worthwhile due to the one-on-one nature coupled with the 32-turn limit for max DP.
Further, having the Bravery Badge accessory (DP Reward) and Silver Chain (bought from Times Department Store) equipped can be a great help. You can also grind for some Sepith in the Geofront to open up some slots for Lloyd. It’s not that time-consuming with Turbo.
After the required event with Grace at the inn on East Street, head back Downtown and speak to either Kientz at Trinity or Huey at Ignis for Bonus DP.
Hidden Quest – Michel’s Test
Talk to Receptionist Michel at the Bracer Guild on East Street. You’ll have to answer the questions with the following correct responses:
- How long ago did the Orbal Revolution occur? Approximately 50 years ago
- Who invented the orbment? Professor C. Epstein
- What is another name for Sepith? Septium Fragments
- What type of symbol can be found on Erebonia’s emblem? The golden stallion
- The name of the Republic-based manufacturer is… Verne Company
- What faction put an end to the Dark Ages? Septian Church
- Which organization within the Septian Church handles ceremonial rituals? Congregation for Divine Worship
- Where are the Bracer Guild Headquarters located? Leman State
- What is the nickname of the infamous Erebonian thief? Phantom Thief B
- What was the name of the treaty signed by the three nations? Non-Aggression Pact
You’ll get an Action 1 Quartz if you answer everything correctly and +5 DP once you report at the SSS terminal as well. 500 Mira will be gifted regardless.
When at the required scene at SSS HQ, choose “The presence of Heiyue” for Bonus DP.
CHAPTER 1

- Raymond at the Crossbell Police Department in the Administrative District.
Report back to Miles at the library and then to the SSS terminal to receive 1000 Mira and 3 DP.

Obtained from the SSS Terminal right when you first gain playable control. Speak to Oscar at Morges Bakery on West Street. Then, talk to Bennet, the green-haired lady also in the Bakery.
Bennet wants 2 Monster Eggs, and Oscar wants 3 Monster Eggs + 4 Fish Fillets.
Monster Eggs are dropped by monsters on East Crossbell Highway, while Fish Fillets are dropped by monsters on Ursula Road (this location will open up later in the day.) The quest doesn’t expire until the day after, so don’t worry about it.
It’s also worth noting that giving Bennet her ingredients first will net you an extra +3 DP. After doing that and giving Oscar his ingredients, report to the SSS terminal to receive + 3 baseline DP and 1,500 Mira.
Quest – Assistance with New Service
Obtained from the SSS Terminal right when you first gain playable control. Speak to receptionist Lanfei at the IBC and exchange 30 of each Sepith type with her. If you’re low on Sepith, a chest on East Crossbell Hallway contains 20 of each type. Lanfei will reward you further with 2 Ep Charge 1s, 3 Teara Balms, and 2 Reviving Balms. Reporting back to the SSS Terminal will provide 3 DP and 1,000 Mira.
You’ll want to use the bank for Sepith exchange whenever possible.
- Recipe – Juicy Steak – Talk to Leyte in the Bellheim Apartments on West Street.
- Recipe – Fresh Fruit Juice – Speak to Chroma, the juice vendor in the Administrative District.
Book – Crossbell Times – Issue 2 – Purchasable via either the Times Department Store in Central Square or Tally’s General Store on West Street.
East Crossbell Highway en route to Old Armorica Road has 6 Treasure Chests.
Further, a Shining Pom can spawn at the bus stop fork and is required for all enemy scans. If it isn’t there, you’ll have to transition in and out of a city for it to potentially spawn. Wait until the bus is active to encounter it. It will be possible to encounter it until the end of the game.
Old Armorica Road has 9 Treasure Chests.
The Sasa Panda is a rare enemy that does not appear on the Old Armorica Road overworld and can only spawn in fights where the Deadly Dandelion enemy is on the overworld.
The Bad Frogger is a rare enemy that does not appear on the Old Armorica Road overworld and can only spawn in fights where the Helmet Hunter is on the overworld.
When at Armorica Village for the story:
Recipe – Rustic Omelet Rice – Head into the Ash Tree Inn, and examine the wooden board on the first floor.
Book – Back Alley Doctor Glenn Chapter 2 – Right after finishing the questioning of Armorica Village and before leaving, head into the general store and speak to Old Man Reoir.
There is also a treasure chest in the village’s northeastern storage shed.
After speaking to the Mayor, you can speak to Kopan in the middle of the village to unlock fishing. You can kickstart your fishing log by catching the Armorican Carp and Tiger Rockfish in Armorica. I won’t be detailing where to catch each fish until Chapter 3, where they can all be caught at once.
When back at Crossbell City, you can feed a fish to Coppe since it’s a new chapter. What fish you give him will provide different Quartz rewards.
You can also head to the Fisherman’s Guild to start getting rewards for catching new fish.
Speaking of rewards, you can speak to Rebecca, a Crossbell Police Department receptionist, to start earning rewards based on how many monsters you’ve seen.
On East Street, you can examine a Jizo statue near the entrance to East Crossbell Highway to offer it supreme variants of your dishes. The rewards are not all that worthwhile until you give it every possible food at the end of the game.
Hidden Quest – Search for the Kitten’s Owner
Speak to Ryu and Anri in the Bellhim Apartments at West Street. Then, speak to the following individuals:
- Pansy in the same building
- Momo, outside of Tally’s General Store on West Street
- Pete, in the Grimwood Law Office on West Street
- Colin, within the Hayworth’s Residence in the Residential District.
- Examine the locked gate on the southern end of the Residential District, down the stairs
- Sunita, in the only open residence in the lower area of the Residential District
Lastly, try to exit the Residential District via the South before a brief scene interrupts you. Walk to the northwest to talk to Sunita to finish up the quest. Reporting this at the SSS Terminal will grant you 5 DP and 500 Mira.
Ursula Road has 8 Treasure Chests.
There is a new Shining Pom that appears on the last screen right before St. Ursula Medical College, just to the left of the fishing spot. It is required for all enemy scans.
The Goldflier and Calamiflier enemies do not appear on the overworld and are rare spawns when encountering the Butterflier enemy.
When exploring Ursula Road there’s a hidden fishing spot depicted below.

Further, be sure to save when entering Ursula Road’s second screen, as there is a miniboss encounter in that area that the game does not warn you about.
Recipe – Deluxe Beef Stew – When at St. Ursula’s Medical College, head into the Le Lectier Inn and speak to Superintendent Kirsche.
When performing the investigation on the supposed monster attacks, you’ll eventually examine a series of stacked-up white and wooden crates on the Le Lectier Inn’s second-floor terrace. After doing so, be sure to examine the stack of wooden crates nearby for Bonus DP.
After the required scene at the Nurse Station, head inside the room behind it and speak to Head Nurse Martha to initiate a scene that raises Tio’s affinity.
DAY 2
Quest – Inspection Assistance Wanted
Obtained from the SSS Terminal at the start of Day 2
Enter Crossbell Station on Station Street and speak to Inspection Officer Quattro. Afterwards, speak to everyone in the train car. After doing so, speak to the family on the left, then the purple-haired man on the right for +2 DP, and to conclude the quest. Report back to the SSS Terminal for +3 DP and 2,000 Mira.
Quest – Abandoned Apartment Monster Cleanup
Maison Imelda Apartments has 5 Treasure Chests.
Obtained from the SSS Terminal at the start of Day 2. Talk to Imelda at her shop in the Back Alley, and then make your way to the Maison Imelda Apartments in the Downtown District. Save before entering since you won’t be able to exit until the quest is cleared. If you’re not prepared here on Nightmare, this can be a pseudo-softlock.
Simply clear out all the monsters and grab all the chests until Wald enters, causing the party to split up. You will only have control over Lloyd and Randy, and they’ll eventually battle a boss. The battle’s difficulty can be greatly lessened by using Randy’s Crash Bomb (learned at level 17) craft which blinds enemies, in this case, the reinforcements. Report to the SSS Terminal to receive +4 DP and 2,500 Mira.
Mainz Mountain Path has 9 Treasure Chests, though one is a level 35 monster chest meant for the endgame.
Mainz Mountain path has a new Shining Pom that is required for all enemy scans. It has a chance to spawn right near the Doll Studio bus stop.
Quest – Mainz Mountain Path Monster Extermination
Obtained from the SSS Terminal at the start of Day 2.
It’s as the tin says. Prepare to deal with Blindness, though, as the monster tends to cause that status ailment. Report back to the SSS Terminal to receive +4 DP and 2,000 Mira.
Hidden Quest – We Long for Wishy
Speak to Lars at the Long Lao Tavern & Inn on East Street. You’ll then have to earn the Mishy Plush at the Barca Casino in the Entertainment District. You can either simply buy the required amount of chips for the Plush or actually play the games. It only costs 200 Medals (1,000 Mira). Whichever you prefer. Report back to Lars and then to the SSS Terminal to receive 500 Mira and +5 DP.
On the way to Mainz, choose the option “Both howl and appearance” when prompted for Bonus DP.
There’s an easy-to-miss fishing spot right before the Mainz Mountain Path – Tunnel.
When at Mainz, choose the following options for Bonus DP:
- Monsters’ Objective
- Unknown, Wolves’ Abilities, Black Wolves, Property Damage/Injuries
- Shizuku MacLaine
Book – Back Alley Doctor Glenn Chapter 3 – After the SSS meeting at the inn, head to the south part of the town, down the steps, and enter the western house to speak to Miner Max.
Instead of examining the table at the inn to progress the story, head to the top of the village and speak to the NPC to gain access to the mine. You can head in here to scan a new enemy type and grab four treasure chests.
For the remaining story fights, utilize Randy’s Crash Bomb Craft.
CHAPTER 2
Required Quest – Old Road Property Monster Extermination
Obtained from the SSS Terminal at the start of the chapter. Can save this for later after doing a bunch of the side activities listed below.
Speak to the Armorica Village chief, then take the bus to the Bus Stop (Fork) and walk north to the sealed-off area. After unlocking it, defeat the enemies, and grab the two Treasure Chests, one of which has a new fishing rod.
Additionally, these enemy encounters are ideal for nabbing the 8 enemy kill achievement. I recommend weakening every enemy in the field and having them all huddle up together, then killing them with Randy’s S-Craft. Reporting to the SSS Terminal will give you +5 DP and 2,500 Mira.
Quest – Enigma Combat Test
Obtained from the SSS Terminal at the start of the chapter.
Speak to Wendy at Genten on Central Street, then set up one of your character’s Orbments to make the Hollow Sphere art usable. It strictly requires 5 Mirage, 3 Wind, and 3 Water Sepith Values. After using it in battle once, go talk to Wendy to receive the Libra Gem Quartz, and then the SSS Terminal to receive 1,500 Mira and 4 DP.

Quest – West Crossbell Highway Monster Extermination
Walk across West Crossbell Highway and defeat the bosses. Report to the SSS Terminal to receive +4 DP and 2,000 Mira

- Recipe – Homemade Egg Pudding – Read “Lip Smacking Quarterly” on the Administrative District’s Library’s first floor.
- Recipe – Thick Espresso – Talk to Morges at the back of his bakery on West Street.
You can head out the west exit of the Mainz Mountain Path – Tunnel now, leading to a small area with two treasure chests and new enemy scans. The new foes here give pretty juicy experience too. A rare enemy here is the Pom, which only appears with the Abyss Worm.
Take the bus on East Crossbell Highway to the intersection and then walk to Tangram Gate (for new enemies and chests.) There are 6 Treasure Chests here, though one is a level 30 monster chest meant for the endgame. A new rare enemy on this path is the Fartacus which only spawns with the Horned Frog.

Speak to ShanShan, the waitress at the Long Lao Tavern & Inn on East Street. You’ll have to present 5 fish to her. To get the maximum amount of +5 DP, you’ll have to present 5 Eels to her, which can be easily caught in Crossbell’s Harbor District with the Novice Rod and Earthworm bait. You’ll probably have enough Earthworm bait by now, but if you don’t, it can be obtained by defeating enemies on the East Crossbell Highway and Ursula Road.
Giving ShanShan the fish will give you the Fierce Tiger Fried Rice recipe and 2 Teara Balms. Reporting at the SSS Terminal will give you +3 baseline DP and 1,500 Mira.

STORY
After you meet Wazy, save the game. You’ll have to choose a date for the auction, and this is the one choice I recommend saving before. Each choice here immediately unlocks an achievement and corresponding Record Points for the Extras Menu you’ll unlock after beating the game once.
In case you forgot, the number of points you get determines how many miscellaneous bonus items you can unlock in the main menu and what you can carry over in NG+. Records/achievements are saved to the system rather than being file-specific as well. So, simply save and load to choose each choice and get the three Records.
At the Schwarze Auction, choose “There’s an intruder” when given the option for Bonus DP.
Book – Back Alley Doctor Glenn Chapter 10 – After making the previous choice, head back into the auction room and walk to the far back, where the stage is. Talk to the maid, Brenda.
After your first fight after escaping the Schwarze Auction, save the game. The upcoming fight has 2 NPCs that must avoid taking damage for Bonus DP. Randy’s Crash Bomb Craft for blindness will do really good work here.

Hidden Quest – A Treat for the Mayor
Head over to City Hall and enter the western room on the second floor. After the event, head down the steps and accept the quest from the receptionist.
Head outside to where Chroma’s stall usually is, near the southeast, and a brief scene will play out. Go to Station Street and talk to her. You can try the drink to gain a CP refill.
Conclude the quest by going back to Mayor MacDowell at City Hall in the same western room. He’ll give you a Zeram Power in return. You’ll also receive +5 DP and 2,000 Mira at the end of the Intermission since the SSS Terminal isn’t active.
Hidden Quest – Guest Lecturer for Sunday School
After the required story event at Crossbell Cathedral, head back to Crossbell City to witness another story scene. After that, head straight back to the Cathedral and talk to Sister Marble for another hidden quest. Choose the following options for +3 Bonus DP:

Talk to Receptionist Miles at the Library in the Administrative District.
Head to Armorica Village. Speak to Alfred at the bar of the Inn, then speak to Elkin at the village entrance. Afterward, go talk to Donald at the house east of the general store. Lastly, examine the inside of the shed east of the mayor’s house to find the Arc en Ciel Enthusiasts book.
For the second book, talk to Miner Logy at the entrance of the mine at Mainz Village. Then head down the linear pathway in the mine to find a sparkling spot on the ground signifying the book. Picking it up will grant you the Paranormal Crossbell Collection book, but you’ll have to fight some monsters to move on. This fight can be rough if you aren’t equipped with the newest gear yet, so be careful.
For the final book, head to the Le Lectier Inn at St. Ursula Hospital and speak to Flora on the first floor. Then, head to the hospital’s roof and enter the normally inaccessible research ward. Examine the middle aisle’s back-right shelf to receive The Best Way to Use 5 Minutes book.
Conclude the quest by speaking to Miles at the Library in the Administrative District. Reporting to the SSS Terminal will grant you +3 DP and 2,000 Mira.
Quest – Creative Cooks Wanted!
Obtained from the SSS Terminal at the start of the fourth chapter’s first playable day. This quest carries over into the final chapter and can only be fully completed with maximum DP acquisition then, so don’t bother with it now.
Quest – A Sincere Favor
Obtained from the SSS Terminal at the start of the fourth chapter’s first playable day.
Speak to Anton (potentially the Grandmaster) and Ricky in the back room in the Long Lao Tavern & Inn on East Street. Speak to Fran at the Crossbell Police Department in the Administrative District, and then speak to Anton at the same spot he was initially found at.
Then, while in the Times Department Store, speak to Prada to get the knitted Pom beanie for +3 Bonus DP. After the following scenes, report to the SSS Terminal to receive a baseline +3 baseline DP and 2,500 Mira.

Heda to the Police Academy at West Crossbell Highway and east one screen. Battle the Quetzalcoatl, who you’ll practically need to use Arts to defeat. They’re highly weak to Wind. Reporting to the SSS Terminal will grant you +4 DP and 5,000 Mira.

Speak to Cecile in room 304 in St. Ursula Medical College. Might have to talk multiple times.
Talk to Michael in room 301, then Meifa in the room behind the Nurse’s station on the second floor. Afterward, talk to Ursuline in the room to the south on the first floor.
Talk to Dr. Gailey, who is sitting on a bench outside near the water. Then head to the Le Lectier Inn and exit to the terrace from the second floor, which houses the men’s rooms. Examine the crates and conclude the quest by speaking to Shizuku once more in room 304.
Reporting to the SSS Terminal will grant you +3 DP and 2,000 Mira.
STORY
The Moon Temple has 12 Treasure Chests.
For the x3 Battle Chain achievement, I recommend using the Moon Temple when you’re there for the story. You’ll encounter a few lengthy vertical segments with several staircases. The enemies in this area won’t stop chasing you, so you can round up 3 enemies here.
DAY 2
After the story event where Lloyd and the party are controllable in the Entertainment District’s inn, talk to the following individuals before reporting to Sergei at the SSS:
- Rixia & Plie at Arc en Ciel in the Administrative District
- Slash & Huey at Ignis in the Downtown District
- Sunita in the house on the lower section of the Residential District not belonging to the MacDowells.
When talking to Sergei, choose the following options first for Bonus DP
- Assailants’ physical abilities
- Haphazard chain of command
- Blue pills in Gantz’s possession
Quest – Search for an Important Person
Obtained from the SSS Terminal during Day 2 after the scene involving Sergei and Dudley. This quest will have several questions. Answer them correctly for +9 Bonus DP.
Examine the locked gate on the top level, near the stairs in the Residential District. Talk to Representative Campbell inside. Talk to both characters in here again.
Examine the journal in the eastern room and answer with the following:
- Suddenly ran away from home
- This morning
- The IBC
Head to the IBC and speak to the receptionist, Lanfei, and then talk to Mariabell on the 16th floor. Then, head to the start of St. Ursula Road and enter Crossbell Airport. Speak to Receptionist Marcana, then head to Crossbell Station in Station Street. Enter the open ticket gate.
Walk across the train cars until you encounter Carla, then choose the following options:
- We’re on a trip to the Republic.

The quest will conclude afterward. Reporting this to the SSS Terminal will net you +3 baseline DP and 2,000 Mira.

- Take the West Crossbell Highway bus to the Police Academy Stop, and then you’ll find the Leevus Flower right outside of the south gate.
- Head to the screen outside of the Moon Temple, accessible from Mainz Mountain Path, and head to the far south of the area to find the Requiem Flower besides two treasure chests.
- On the first map of East Crossbell Highway, when exiting the city, head west at the first opportunity to find the Fainel Flower at the top right.
Talk to Old Man Quint at his original spot again to conclude the quest. Reporting to the SSS Terminal will grant you +3DP and 2,000 Mira.
Hidden Quest – Getting a New Doll – ONLY OBTAINABLE IF DP IS AT 288
Talk to Imelda at her Antique shop in the Back Alley, and then take the Mainz Mountain Path bus to the Doll Studio stop and save before entering the studio. I also advise placing each party member at the four corners of the Tactics menu configuration. The Tildawn Dolls are only weak to magic and repel everything physical.
Report back to Imelda and then to the SSS Terminal to receive +8DP and 5,000 Mira.
DAY 3
Quest – Orbal Staff Enhancement
Obtained from the SSS Terminal right at the start of Chapter 4’s third day. Can’t be completed right now, so save it for later.
Quest – Stargazer’s Tower Monster Extermination
Obtained from the SSS Terminal right at the start of Chapter 4’s third day.
Head to this tower from Ursula Road and ascend to the top. Defeat the bosses. They aren’t terribly remarkable, as their most notable trait is interrupting your casting with an attack induced with Impede. You’ll gain a Combo Craft with Elie and Randy here. Reporting this to the SSS Terminal will grant you +4 DP and 5,000 Mira.
Quest – Moon Temple Monster Extermination
Obtained from the SSS Terminal right at the start of Chapter 4’s third day.
Head to the Mainz Mountain Path and reach the Moon Temple from the west exit of the cave. Reach the top and battle the bosses who are rather weak. You’ll gain a Combo Craft here involving Tio and Elie. Reporting this to the SSS Terminal will grant you +4 DP and 5,000 Mira.
Quest – Ancient Battlefield Monster Extermination
Obtained from the SSS Terminal right at the start of Chapter 4’s third day. Head to the Ancient Battlefield right outside of Armorica Village. Reach the end of the area, and the bosses are to the West of the screen. They can inflict instant death, so be wary of that. You’ll gain a Combo Craft involving Randy and Tio. Reporting this to the SSS Terminal will grant you +4 DP and 5,000 Mira.
Book – Back Alley Doctor Glenn Chapter 14 – Obtained from exchanging in the “Other” category at Neinvalli in the Downtown District. 5 Mishy Plush Toys are required, which can be exchanged for 1,000 medals at the Barca Casino in the Entertainment District. This is also the final Glenn book, and while you can exchange them all for a Zemuria Stone, keep them all with you for the time being as there’s an achievement for owning every book simultaneously, including the Crossbell Times Volumes.
A point of no return will occur as you complete the next dungeon, but I recommend going through it and stopping just before the end for the extra acquisitions. The game will also warn you of the point of no return.
Progress with the story. The next dungeon will have a recipe.
Revache & Co. has 17 Treasure Chests
Recipe – Rich Cream Shop – When in Revache HQ, head upstairs from the entrance and into the door on the left. Examine the bookshelf.
When having to input a password, choose the following:
- Mark and the Witch of the Deep Forest
- Shawn Arnham
The warehouse section of the dungeon leads to an exterior chest of the Back Alley, near Imelda’s shop.
The armory section of the dungeon leads to the other 2 chests of the Back Alley. One houses a T-Material, needed for the Orbal Staff Enhancement quest. Speaking of…
Quest – Orbal Staff Enhancement
Now that you have the T-Material, speak to Chief Roberts and Guillame at the latter’s factory in the Downtown District. After some conversation, approach Guillame to perform the upgrade process and gain Tio’s new craft. Reporting to the SSS Terminal will also grant you +4 DP and 3,000 Mira.
STORY
When you get both keys in the story dungeon, unlock the new path, and defeat the boss at the end of the hallway, refrain from progressing as it’s a point of no return.
Now, complete your fishing list if you haven’t already. Check the second page of this walkthrough for the list of where and how to catch them all.
Scan the 4 Shining Poms, if you haven’t already, listed below. Keep in mind that they are not guaranteed to spawn and will likely require multiple screen transitions. The only transitions that affect their spawning are entering and leaving the area entirely, not simply changing screens on the same map.
- West Crossbell Highway – Up the ramp right after exiting Bellguard Gate.
- Ursula Road – To the left of the fishing spot on the screen right before St. Ursula Medical College.
- East Crosssbell Highway – Take the bus stop to the fork, and it’ll be right nearby.
- West Crossbell Highway – Take the bus to the Doll Studio stop, and it’ll be right nearby.
The following monster chests should be done. If you’re only after Scans and not the reward, you can just scan them and flee.
- Ursula Road (Level 25) – Screen right before Stargazer’s Tower.
- East Crossbell Highway (Level 30) – Screen right before Tangram Gate.
- Mainz Mountain Path (Level 35) – At the Doll Studio bus stop screen, near the south.
- West Crossbell Highway (Level 35) – Head 2 screens west when exiting from Crossbell City.
- Stargazer’s Tower (Level 40) – On the third floor, in the circular area.
All of the decorations are now buyable:
- Model Orbal Car – Armorica Village General Store
- Orbal Stereo – Mainz Mining Village General Store
- Wall Clock – St. Ursula Medical College – Le Lectier Inn Shop
- Elegant Vase – Times Department Store
- Wall Mishy – Times Department Store
- Sitting Mishy – Imelda’s shop at the Back Alley
- Darts Set – Barca Casino Reward
- Ilya Poster – Times Department Store
The 4 Orbal Covers should also be bought from Genten for the achievement, which also requires all gifts to have been given as well.
The Creative Cooks quest will not expire once you complete this Chapter.
FINAL CHAPTER
Quest – Strange Phenomenon in the Geofront – Only available on NG+. This isn’t required for the “Your Friendly Neighborhood SSS” achievement/trophy.
Head over to the Geofront B-Sector in the Residential District and enter the first door to see an NPC. After talking to them, you can enter the nearby door to arrive in the game’s bonus dungeon, which contains powerful enemies. You’ll easily reach the level 50 achievement here. Completing the quest and reporting in to the SSS Terminal will grant you +4 DP and 5,000 Mira.
Geofront B-Sector Lower has 13 Treasure Chests.
Feed Coppe on the roof one final time, and you’ll receive the Gemini Gem Quartz if you’ve fed him from Chapter 1 onward.
Book – Crossbell Times – Issue 8 – Purchasable via either the Times Department Store in Central Square or Tally’s General Store on West Street.
- Recipe –Shiny Blue – Speak to Sandra at Jazz Bar Garante in the Back Alley
- Recipe – Medicinal Mapo Tofu – Speak to Roose standing out of the Lao Lao Tavern & Inn at East Street.
Assuming you’ve obtained all books, Doctor Glenn chapters, and Crossbell Times issues, you’ll receive a Record/Achievement. You can exchange every Doctor Glenn chapter to Imelda at her shop in the Back Alley for Zemurian Ore, required for another Achievement where you can make a character’s ultimate weapon when speaking to Guillame.
Quest – Creative Cooks Wanted
This quest from Chapter 4 can now be completed with the maximum Bonus DP. Make the peculiar variants of all 23 dishes you currently have. The characters with the least stars per dish have the highest chance of making the peculiar variety. Prankster Quartz also amplifies chance.
Making the Supreme versions also counts for a separate achievement.
Give Selteo at the Vingt-Sept Café on Central Street 23 peculiar dishes for +6 bonus DP. Handing over the Reflect Liquid variant of the Rich Cream Soup recipe will also give you the final recipe of the game, Ripe Onion Soup.
Reporting to the SSS Terminal will grant you +3 baseline DP and 2,000 Mira.
Examining the statue near the entrance to East Crossbell Highway on East Street will allow you to give it Supreme Dishes. You must re-enter the screen between each offering. Giving every variant will grant you the Solar Gem Quartz.
For the 100 cancels and 3.0 tactical bonus achievements, battle the Gordi Ossa on the screen before the entrance to Stargazer’s Tower. Have Lloyd and Elie equipped with Gladiator Headbands for their auto CP recovery and have 21 consumables to burn.
Essentially, you’ll have to wait for the enemies to start off a charging attack, then use either Lloyd’s Stun Break or Elie’s Wild Swan Crafts to impede. Moreover, if you’re seeking the x 3.0 tactical bonus, you should aim for 21 cancels and 27 item usages since the “Triple Cancel” and “Bag of Tricks (3 item usages)” tactical bonuses can be earned 9 times. The art cancel achievement will also pop in the middle of battle.
Thanks to GameFAQs user Kartarius for sharing this handy trick.
Progress with the story for the final stretch.
At St. Ursula, the hospital key is obtained from examining a downed mafia enemy on the Le Lectier Inn terrace. Do the following for Bonus DP:
- At the Le Lectier Inn, examine the second room on the third floor.
- In the hospital proper, examine the northern room on the first floor, accessible from the eastern hallway.
- Go into rooms 201 and 202
- Go into room 302 and then 301 in that order.
- Head into the room by the signboard on the third floor, it has no room number. Talk to the NPC here.
The St. Ursula Medical College Research Building has 6 Treasure Chests.
On the fourth floor of the research building, refrain from entering the final door from the western entrance because it’ll trigger a forced story fight with no warning, and you’ll miss the chests on this floor. Save in case.
For the next story choice, choose “The sound of the machine guns” for Bonus DP.
After resting and getting your bonding achievement/trophy for whoever was the highest, prepare for an onslaught of battles back to back with no healing in between. Win them all for bonus DP.
The final dungeon is next, which has 50 Treasure Chests.
And how you have beaten The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero! Congrats!
For the achievement requiring you to beat the game at less than level 40, I partially merged it with my NG+ playthrough to obtain all chests.
To elaborate, it’s easiest to play through the game on Easy via NG+ while carrying everything over except your Stats. You’ll be at Level 1 but still retain your equipment, making any difficulty absent. Then, if you’re going for all treasure chests, do so while avoiding all unnecessary encounters. You’ll have to do a few quests like Maison Imelda, which has a few treasures.
However, when you reach the start of Chapter 4, you should make a separate save to create two achievement avenues.
Since NG+ has an exclusive dungeon with its own chests guarded by strong monsters, opening all chests will make beating the game in under Level 40 impossible. Spend the rest of the playthrough on a save file solely dedicated to opening the rest of the treasure chests. And since Records are saved to the game’s system data, you can load your initial file where you split your playthrough.
You can then go on to beat the game at less than level 40 here. Remember to only do story-required encounters and nothing more. When you reach the final dungeon and have your two guest members, make sure they’re killed before entering any story fights. They will be level 38 and will hit level 40 on their own if left unattended, while KO’ing them will negate any experience they earn. If all goes right, you should be at level 39 when entering the final boss’ second phase. You’ll be home free at that point, especially on Easy.
The second page of this guide contains lists for all fish, recipes, books, unique Quartz, rare enemies, treasure chest amounts per area, all Records (achievements), and extra information.
