The Last of Us Part II Details Update Coming Later This Week Adds Permadeath and New Modes in Trailer

Sony Interactive Entertainment released a new update trailer for the Naughty Dog-developed adventure, The Last of Us Part II, coming to PlayStation 4 on August 13.

The free update will add Grounded Difficulty, a mode that was seen in the previous game where players have a limited HUD, slim resources, and will encounter deadlier enemies. However, the update doesn’t stop there as players also have access to new gameplay modifiers that could make the entire experience easier.

With the additional modifiers, players can infinitely craft items, slow down time, and enable one-hit kills. However, the update takes the challenge a step further as well by allowing players to turn on permadeath, meaning one death, it’s all over. Other modifiers include overlays that change the look of the game and are purely graphical.

The Last of Us Part II puts players in the role of an older Ellie who is out for revenge. A lot has happened since the conclusion of The Last of Us, and players will be able to experience how humanity is adapting to this world years after the outbreak. Reprising their role as Joel and Ellie are Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson, respectively. However, it was rumored that Joel might have been a ghost, but now we know that Joel will make his return.
