You know the drill; fan Discs are a brilliant way that visual novels can expand on the base story without making any firm decision on who you decided to romance. However, very few visual novels have as large of a cast as The Ditzy Demons Are in Love With Me, which means there’s quite a bit of content to dive into within the release of The Ditzy Demons Are in Love With Me: Fan Disc. Well, I guess this depends on where you purchase the game because if you pick the game up on Steam, well, you’re in for a surprise.
As visual novel fans know, it’s not easy for publishers to get their game listed on Steam. To get around this, Sekai Project has launched The Ditzy Demons Are in Love With Me: Fan Disc as DLC for the base game with only one route available, the seal named Gome. Yes, once you boot up the game, you’ll be able to date and romance Gome through a fully realized narrative about the two of you falling in love.
So when you’re done having fun with your Gome, you’ll be able to download the free patch to unlock the game’s remaining eight routes with a ninth route dedicated to the legendary harem scenes. Each route is chosen at the start of the game and begins with a refresher about the previous game. It’s a nice touch as you’ll be experiencing events that occurred after Ren chose his girlfriend.
The routes themselves mostly revolve around what you think they revolve around, hooking up. However, there is a prominent theme in each of them that revolves around the duties of being in a relationship and a unique element surrounding the heroin’s kink. You’ll be able to see it all, from teaching wifely duties such as cooking to how two people can coexist in a living space together. Then you’re in for the wild ride of masochism and being free to pretty much get down whenever you want.
While each route generally focuses on the chosen girl, the remaining characters pop up from time to time to weigh in on the situation. These characters are still demons, and sometimes, that can be lost on the narrative as it isn’t the core theme like when Ren was trying to rehabilitate the girls. They do their best to show that they’ve grown, but even if you forgot they were demons altogether, their powers find a way to creep up and remind you.
The routes stay consistently light-hearted with a decent balance of comedic one-liners and romance for what it is. I’m sure the writers could have just given fans routes full of h-scenes, but they decided to stay true to each girl’s personalities. If I had to choose the best routes, it would probably be Riria, Emiri, and Arle, who is definitely still best girl.
Interestingly, this game opens a route for Reika, Riria’s mother. It’s not the longest route in the game, but it’s interesting to see this side of her knowing that she is an adult succubus. Further, Rin and Aifa receive much more dignified routes and a few extra scenes, which is a nice touch on the entire package.
However, I’m sure most fans would appreciate knowing that their is a harem route that more or less throws away the narrative and finds Ren with each of the girls, all at once. There are some additional scenes with multiple demon girls, but if you were hoping for some reason why this all happens, don’t even think about it and allow the fabled route to consume your delinquent mind.
The art by Sayori is actually excellent, especially during the animated scenes, which each route has one of. There’s a healthy serving of CGs and character illustrations with different outfits across a few reused backgrounds. With the main appeal being the h-content, expect many of the CGs to be just that, but there are non-h CGs as well. In general, I’d say that the h-content has a weird obsession with pee, but they seem to try to cover a few different preferences. The music doesn’t really stand out and is probably the most lacking aspect of the game.
What I feel adds more value to the experience is how new extras are unlocked following each route. There are character illustrations and comments by Sayori about the approach to creating the art for each route. Furthermore, each heroine has audio files, but these are not translated, which was sad because they sound like pretty fun clips of the voice actors talking about their respective characters. If that wasn’t enough, you could also pose each of the characters in a diorama mode for a little added fun.
The Ditzy Demons Are in Love With Me: Fan Disc is the ultimate fan disc for those who couldn’t get enough of these ditzy demons. It does more than the bare minimum for its narrative and goes all-in with new character routes and extra unlockables. If you weren’t into the humor before, you probably wouldn’t enjoy this release, making it explicitly for the fans.
