Square Enix Announces The Centennial Case: A Shijima Story; Live Action Game For PS4, PS5, Switch & PC, May Release

During the Japan version of the Nintendo Direct, Square Enix announced a new title arriving to the Switch, The Centennial Case: A Shijima Story. However, it is also receiving a localized release on the platform, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam on May 12, 2022.

This is a live-action mystery adventure being developed by h.a.n.d. Throughout this game, players witness the tragic tale of the Shijima family, who have experienced many familial deaths over the past 100 years. The protagonist is a mystery novelist named Haruka Kagami who utilizes her detective prowess to investigate the four deaths that have plagued this family’s history.

High-quality cinematography and live-action gameplay are at the forefront of the experience to immerse players in several eras of Japan. Nanami Sakuraba plays the protagonist, and Haruka Kagami and Yuta Hiraoka play the Shijima family’s second son, Eiji Shijima.

Those who purchase the game before release will receive a Behind the Scenes feature titled The Centennial Case: A Shijima Story and a mini soundtrack composed by Yuki Hayashi.

Producer Junichi Ehara provided the following statement regarding this upcoming title:

“This is a mystery game that we’ve poured our efforts into wholeheartedly, following extensive discussion between the director, Koichiro Ito – who has created a great many adventure games – and Yasuhito Tachibana, of Netflix’s The Naked Director, on the topic of “a live action game, for gamers”. An intricately woven story, a gameplay experience where you use your powers of reasoning to uncover the culprit, and the massive secret that threads together multiple murder cases that occur at different points in time… We’ve entered the last stage of development, with the aim to make it a mystery game that everyone can enjoy. I hope you’ll look forward to the game!”
