Sol Press wrote a blog that outlines fears that some visual novel fans have been having since the removal of the Laplacian visual novel The Future Radio and the Artificial Pigeons from the publisher’s website.
In a statement, the company addresses these concerns with some bad news. Both Sol Press and Laplacian have come to an agreement that The Future Radio and the Artificial Pigeons and any of the developer’s other works will not be published by Sol Press. However, when it comes to their previous release, Newton and the Apple Tree, the team plans to release the rest of the Kickstarter rewards once COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted.
This news comes after the publisher announced that they will no longer publish visual novels, but will still work on titles that they’ve announced. However, this doesn’t seem to be the case with the cancellation. Still, the company writes, “We believe that it would be mutually beneficial for the release of their titles to be handled by a different team.” This does give hope that the game might be picked up by a different publisher.
In an interview with Noisy Pixel last year, CEO of Sol Press Michael Valdez commented on piracy being a huge issue that the company faced. Their releases were being heavily pirated and distributed online, which made it tough for them to make a profit off of their titles.
Sol Press has previously released, Onii Kiss: Onii-chan, Where’s My Kiss?, My Fair Princess, Yotsunoha, and other titles west. Upcoming releases, and maybe the last visual novels from the company will be Happiness! 2 Sakura Celebration, Hyper Highspeed Genius, and Witch’s Garden.
