Tencent Offers $148 million to Purchase Funcom
Tencent announced today a voluntary interest in acquiring all shares from Funcom, and therefore its complete ownership. Funcom is a popular name that many games known, responsible for developing such titles like Mutant Year Zero, Dreamfall: The Longest Journey and most importantly, Conan video-games.
With an offer of $148 million, the Funcom CEO Rui Casais, said “We have had a great relationship with Tencent as our largest shareholder so far and we are excited about this opportunity.” Tencent isn’t particularly new to the video-game industry, and they even own a 40% of Epic Games. The Chinese group also owns the entire rights of League of legends. It’s clear that Video-Games are the most resourceful and profitable source of entertainment in Europe and United States, which is the perfect goal for many group investors.
“We will continue to develop great games that people all over the world will play.” Said Funcom CEO, which again proves the interest of Tencent to take on the talented Developer/Publisher to extend its business and create more games, planing reaching a world-wide market.
