KRAFTON and developer Boundary have announced their top-down action RPG TARAE: The Unbound, in development for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam, with a release date yet to be announced.
TARAE: The Unbound takes place on Taegwido, an island created after the boundaries between the Six Realms collapsed. An outcast named Agasa shattered those boundaries in an attempt to break the cycle of reincarnation. Players search the resulting fractured lands for Sources capable of restoring the Six Realms.
The story follows six characters known as Seekers, each entering Taegwido for their own reasons. Players take the role of one Seeker while encountering the other five as allies. The game gradually explores their individual histories and motivations as the group searches for the scattered Sources.
Combat comprises fighting large groups of enemies through chained attacks and character skills. Boss encounters place a greater emphasis on recognizing attack patterns, dodging, and countering at the right moment. Enemies and bosses draw from Eastern mythology and folklore.
Players can create different builds by combining class skills, traits, support skills, and equipment. Classes incorporate blades, firearms, martial arts, mystic abilities, and spirit-based powers, with each using its own combat resource and skill system. Character progression and equipment also incorporate concepts including the Five Elements, Yin and Yang, karma, and reincarnation.
