Electronic Arts revealed they will publish the Surgent Studios Tales of Kenzera: ZAU to release on April 23, 2024.
Tales of Kenzera: ZAU invites players to explore the stunning yet perilous realms of Kenzera, playing as Zau, a young shaman who makes a pact with the God of Death to resurrect his Baba from the shadows of the afterlife. This deeply moving single-player story is influenced by actor Abubakar Salim’s personal experiences with grief, illustrating the transformative power of love in overcoming profound loss. Players harness celestial powers derived from the Sun and the Moon to engage in rhythmic combat against restless spirits, striving to become a Nganga, a revered spiritual healer.
The game’s universe is rich in lore, depicting a world balanced between chaos and order, and is set in vibrant 2.5D environments that are both visually captivating and full of depth. The immersive experience is further enhanced by the enchanting original score from the multi-award-winning composer Nainita Desai.
Developed by Surgent Studios, founded by actor Abubakar Salim (known for roles in Assassin’s Creed: Origins and Raised by Wolves), and published by EA Originals, “Tales of Kenzera™: ZAU” is not just a game but a heartfelt journey. It draws inspiration from the diverse myths of Bantu cultures, offering players an emotionally charged adventure filled with mythological richness and cultural depth.
